Prospective ETO looking for any advice you have
Hi,
I'm considering getting into the commercial shipping industry as an ETO in about a year and a half. I'm trying to gather as much information as possible.
If you have any recommendations or advice, especially regarding training, ship types, companies etc, then I'd be super grateful to hear it. I've checked out the Careers at Sea site and now need some more detail.
Thank you all for your time

You could try Clydemarine for info.
https://www.clyderecruit.com/
Most drilling rigs carry ETs and there are loads of offshore recruitment agencies easy to find on the Internet

Re: Prospective ETO looking for any advice you have
You don’t say your age or experience if any. So assume you are completely green as to your duties etc. etc. ? assuming ETO is electro technical officer you will no doubt be using short wave radio telephony frequently among other duties. So in the meantime before deciding what and where you would like to work and to save face saving embarrassment at a later date you should make yourself completely aware of the phonetic alphabet. Your work ship wise will mostly come under the engine room department. So best advice will come through the engineers or any past Radio Officers who have lost their own status as such and picked up and carried on as ETOs . Best of luck in your future career however it pans out and am sure you will enjoy. Cheers JS
