Murder on the NEW ZEALAND STAR
Sometime in 1965 there was a member of the catering department murdered on the New Zealand Star. A Scotland Yard Detective was flown out to investigate, he was found dead in bed.
Does anyone know the details of this case ??
Roy Derham of the VINDICATRIX ASSOCIATION, ASKED ME ABOUT IT for the next magazine.
I sailed on the NZ STAR in 1953 to 54, My mate Ken Hignett was drowned that trip. I wrote about the voyage in SEAFARING Stories thread.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Brian.

there was a murder on one of the castle boats as well, apparently this girl stowed away in capetown and she was pushed through a porthole, think they said she was drunk. Im not thinking of Gay Gibson, she was murdered about 10 years before. Could have been an intermediate boat too, not sure. I did read about it in the papers. anyone remember?

There was a murder of a passenger, Actress Gay Gibson on the Durban Castle, Steward James Camb was charged, he was accused of strangling her and oushing her body through the port. He served 11 years in gaol, very lucky man, the death penalty had been suspended by Parliament while it was being discussed. later re introduced.
He was later after release accused of molesting young girls and died in prison.
Gay Gibson and James Camb.below.

New scotland yard:
Thoughts are to contact the Met Police ? are you certain that Scotland yard detectives were involved ? Would be willing to try, lest you would prefer to go down that road yourself ?
