Seaman Photograph
Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where there might be a picture/ photo of a now dead seaman who rose from Cabin Boy to Captain in the early 20th century?

Re: Seaman Photograph
It is a long shot. Can you give a name, date and place of birth please? If he joined prior to 1918 he may have a photo on any surviving CR 10 card.

Hugh

Re: Seaman Photograph
Thank you for your response to my query regarding a photo of my wife's grandfather whose details are as follows. Robert Smith born 18 August 1871 or 1872 in Maryport Cumberland. His first ship the small Barque "Jessie Morris" joined Manchester Liners in early 20th century until he emigrated to Australia late 1927 disembarking in Melbourne, after which due to family troubles has not been heard of since despite the employment of professional researchers in Oz.
No family member has and photos. Many thanks for your interest.

Re: Seaman Photograph
It looks like he has no CR10 card in the Fourth Register of Seamen so unfortunately there will not be any photos of him as a seaman.
You didn't ask for this information but I give anyway in case you have not seen it - his WW1 medal file BT 351/1/131501
can be downloaded for £3.30.

Hugh

Re: Seaman Photograph
No Keith, I regret that we have been unable to make contact with any of the Scurr family despite the rarity of the name (as opposed to Smith), and this after widespread enquiries in the area.We realise this would be the ideal way to perhaps locate a picture of the pair. We will have a renewed effort in the New Year to try this method again.
With thanks to all who contributed to the effort, all the best for 1916.
Ray.
