Due out before the end of the year, I have just proofed the pages of a book on Holland America Line passenger ships, from 1950 until the present. And all those "dam ships" -- Nieuw Amsterdam, Statendam, Rotterdam, Ryndam, Noordam and many more.

    Hi Vernon
I was in Rotterdam back in the 50s and me and my mate were drinking in a bar as one does, and in came one of the most beautiful young girls I have ever seen, she was Eurasian and surrounded by six young men all from the Philippines, they were off I think one of the Dutch liners, there was no way we could get anywhere near the girl unless we wanted to die; they were guarding her, one of them told us she was a stewardess, I remember it to this day.
But to get back to your pics there will never be ships like this again; not even in our grandchildren's lifetime, more's the pity.
    Cheers Des

I always sail on the latest of Holland America ships. better than Cunard.
Rotterdam, Statendam, Amsterdam and Maasdam. all excellent ships.and have British and Dutch Officers, so well run ships.
    Cheers
    Brian
