Re: Stanley James William Cain
From what little I know that sounds like Dad, he was stopped at aged 18 on his motorbike by the IoM police, when asked why it didn’t have a horn he apparently replied - it’s noisy enough without one - he was fined by the magistrates! Thanks for the story Ken

A great reason to keep looking in,
much can be like waiting for a bus -
nothing for what seems an age, then
all comes at once.
Fingers crossed for more.

Dad - Reg Pearce AB sailed on the Athlone Castle - Carnarvon Castle - Winchester Castle- Stirling Castle and the Edinburgh Castle from 1950 - 1957.
Re: Stanley James William Cain
Hello Ken Cain,
I remember your father, Stan. He was on Edinburgh Castle with me in about 1964 or 1965.
He had a finisher’s medal for the Isle of Man TT.
He also had a recording of motor bikes racing round the TT course.
He was mischevious!
We used to wait till we came off watch at midnight and the romantic couples were on deck in the tropical moonlight
Then he would play the sound track at full blast and have everyone looking for motorbikes racing past the ship in the dark, in the middle of the Atlantic!
Nice to be reminded of an old shipmate.
Regards,
Ken Burns
Re: Stanley James William Cain
Hi did you find some photos, got dads seaman’s pouch from the national archives - not a lot in there but there were 2 photo’s of him at approx 21 and another in his early 30s.
Thanks
Ken

Re: Stanley James William Cain
Hello Richard, apologies for the long delay and thanks for the information, Nicolas Bowater wasn't on the list of ships I had found him on. I'll give Dave D a shout and see if I can find any more information. I'm partivulalrly interested on what ship he was on when he went to Australia and the route he took, s I'm reliably informed that UC didn't sail there.
Thanks Again
Ken

Nothing is written in stone Ken, people told me PSNC never went anywhere except the West Indies and West Coast of South America. I sailed on two PSNC ships, on one went to New Zealand (Chartered to Shaw Savill) on the same one I went to Egypt (chartered by the Govt) on another I went to South and East Africa plus the USA (Chartered by Safmarine) so take some statements with a pinch of salt, there are always exceptions to the rule.
