Re: Stanley James William Cain
Ken
I have searched through the crew lists and have found quite a bit on your dad.
I have created a page for him in the Staff Register: Stanley Cain
For now it just contains his service record but if you would like to send me anything else, including any photos I would be happy to include them.

Re: Stanley James William Cain
Hello my name is Peter Troy (81) I maybe a first cousin to a Stanley Cain. Was his mother called Minnie Swigg?
Did they at one time live in Eltham? I lost touch after his mum died, but here’s the irony. During my sea-going years I worked as a Steward on The Warwick, The Dunnotar and other Castle boats.

Hello Peter
Another perhaps co -incidence as I too was on both those Ships ,I did the last Voyage of the Dunnottar Castle From Cape Town to KG5 ,when she was sold and resumed Service for quite a few Years after that with different names a great old Ship she was. That trip was in 1958 Also as said on the Warwick Round Africa Run as well, same as the Dunnottar!
We may have met at some stage ?? I was in Catering!
Cheers
This Pic was taken when I was actually on the Dunnottar on her last trip as that name mid Atlantic I only just found this after nearly 50 Years Amazing my Discharge Book shows the date that we left Cape Town

Thanks to Mr. Anderson and a certain quartermaster aboard the DURBAN CASTLE the evocative picture above was taken of the DUNNOTTAR CASTLE (1936) as seen from the DURBAN CASTLE between Ascension Island and St. Helena in the South Atlantic on July 19th 1958. DUNNOTTAR CASTLE was homeward bound on her last voyage as a Union-Castle liner. At that time Mr. Anderson was serving on DURBAN CASTLE (1938) as a lamp trimmer. The DUNNOTTAR CASTLE sailed on as the Greek cruise ship VICTORIA. DURBAN CASTLE was broken up in Hamburg in 1962.

Hi Ken. Try googling B and C Staff register. A wonderful man by the name of Chris Isaacs runs this site and lists everything you can think of. Give it a go. Patsy

I was on the Edinburgh Castle till May 1965 but do not remember that name. There was a Brian Nash in the Engineering department at that time....he moved on to Safmarine “South African Statesman” I believe.

Re: Stanley James William Cain
Hello Ken
For his CRS10 you will have to go in person to Kew ,as to ask online nowdays seems an impossible task with them, but you can try anyway by giving full particulars such as Full name DOB Place of Birth,Ships served on etc etc. And also must include Ref Number
CRS10 Link
Search results: BT382/2157 | The National Archives
For his Seamans Pouch ,this is available online readily but at a cost as well, this will hold basic info on him, that is why the CRS is the best option with a lot more info
