Hi Karola,
I know St Andrews Road in Glasgow. I will look to see what exists of that address at number 229. It is in the Pollokshields area of the city. It is an eminently respectable area of the city, mostly fine sandstone tenement style flats built around late 1890's. A lot of them still exist.
Burial from there for the family would almost certainly be the Southern Necropolis, off Caledonia Road in the Gorbals area. A very large and traditional cemetery. Still used but only in old family lairs.
Leave it with me for now.
Googlemaps or multimaps and you will see the area on your computer. Less than a mile from the Clyde and near old Kingston and Plantation Docks. A lot of seaman from that area.

St Andrews Rd and Pollokshields Rd
Hello Jimmy,
I remember the building looks like an old Edwardian style 'Flats' with a shop around the corner of the building, tall windows and an inner court yard. Windows of the living room faced the street that you walk up from the train station. I remember my grandfather sat at the window and watched for us come up the road. He would shake the curtain when he saw us and we waved back. Then grandmother knew to start the kettle. In the stairwell we would give a 'Robin' whistle that echoed and the door opened. Oh my goodness!
Coal fires! I thought the coal looked like giant diamond cut stones. My grandfather told me watch and they would turn to rubies. He was right! My grandfather loved to tease and tell stories of his travels but: grandmother would say 'wheesht' and he would just smile.
Jimmy, would it help if I gave you the names and dates of my grandparents?

Hi Karola,
Number 229, St Andrews Road still exists exactly as you remember it, same shops same road just different proprietors.
Put your email address in a private message to me I have some pics for you. I will talk to you about the pics and tell you what to do once you have them in front of you.
I am looking into the Southern Necropolis you will see the problem once you get the pics. Well over a quarter of a million there, your relatives (if there), have plenty company. Its been on the go a long time. Some of it not in good condition. One of five very major cemeteries in the city. Lots of famous people in it. Study the pics of it and try to remember!!!

Hi Karola,
Glad you liked the pics. You Gran and Granddad lived in a nice house. They were some of the best housing for the time. Grey Scottish sandstone under a blue slate roof. Still popular a lot of business people like that sort of flat. Walls two feet thick, deep foundations, floors packed with ash to insulate and deaden sound.
You would have recognised the gate of the Southern Necropolis if that had been the cemetery. That is the only gate and you do not forget it.
I am going to send out some more pics, a more modern cemetery, called Linn Cemetery, near Castlemilk. Used a lot in later years by Glasgow Southside persons. Lines of gravestones. Have a look again and try to remember. Think about how you travelled there?? Anything will help. Death certificates usually dont mention the place of interment. We need the cemetery the family used??
