Hello Everyone,
First posting (apart from a comment on the Dennis Ellis Story: Well recommended reading for you that have yet to do so!)
Great to be here.....so far......hope can catch a few ex-fellow crew members.
First ship (1970) was Blue Flues "Cyclops" Then I did 5 or so years with ED's mostly out of Liverpool of course, down the West Coast of Africa.
Some ships then were: Owerri, Bhamo, Daru, Bellerophon (Yes, a "Bluey"down the West Coast.) Fian.
I then went "Free Lance" as a Sparks......for various companies: Buries Markes: La Cumbre. Jebsens: Brimnes. Stephenson Clarkes: Wadhurst & Corchester.
Achille Lauro Lines of Naples: Pallade & Palizzi. Salen UK: Irish Wasa. C:Rowbothams: Vegaman. Then Island Navigation of Hong Kong: Pacific Prestige, Pacific Courage,Pacific Pride, Asian Pride. Four Years with them. My Last ship was the Scirocco Universal., (October 87)
By which time I saw the writing was on the wall for my job: The day of the satellites had arrived!
I went ashore and became.......A Transport Refrigeration Engineer! Did that for a few years with Hubbard & GAH then set up my own one-man-band doing the same thing in & around the Northwest until 2000, when I sold up & moved to Chile with my Chilean wife, Veronica, whom I had married in 1982. She spent 4 or so years at sea with me on the Bulkers (Island Nav of HKG) & the Scirocco.
Last ship I was on was the Tenca Arrow of Gearbulk....she was at Lirquen, just north of here on her maiden voyage. An amazing vessel.
This visit was arranged for me by Captain Ian Broad, who is the Gearbulk boss out here in Chile.
And here's a twist: He served on the Blue Funnel ship Bellerophon down West Africa for Elder Dempsters.......the trip after I was on her.
And we have been here since, about 30 miles southwest of Concepcion.
So, if anyone recognises me & my past....be great to hear from you!
