Yes It's his seamans pouch.he was also on the ashmun.j.clough and was torpedoed in 1944.
I will try to find out more on the crs10.

Not sure you've already got this ,but found this whilst researching the ship.
U-BOAT.NET SITE
The ship was only 15 months old when torpedoed,so I guess photos of her are rare.
However there is a picture on WRECKSITE .EU which shows the s.s. KINSALE HEAD,a typical U.S.-built N3-S-1 type coastal vessel same as the ASHMUN......
