Hi to my fellow mariners...
I have a Seaman’s Discharge book since 1997, and have my late father’s one also. In the 80’s I started my career working on twin beamer scallop boats, I then worked in Brixham for a ship builder, but in 1995 trained to be a diver at Fort Bovisand in Plymouth and worked offshore till 2000 I then started doing more skipper work alongside diving and trained at Plymouth Maritime, College and now 30years on I'm still working but now down to doing the odd temporary contract, I only had one weeks work this month, I took a 24M tug from Liverpool to Lowestoft, I worked a full month last month. Coastal Tickets used to be enough to keep me going, but I need to get more tickets now to progress to Skipper bigger boats Offshore, but currently cannot afford to the time or money. I can’t even afford to tax my van... All I need is a regular slot so I can do courses when on leave. I have spent several years working in the Middle East as a diver on oilfield pipeline and platform inspection, Maintenance and repairs, and am experienced with cable laying using a plough and now work on coastal tugs as Mate, and Skipper, but realise that I need to gain more certificates to progress in my career, I really need a company to employ me on regular trips, to enable me to gain further qualifications while on leave, I am really not fussy about my position I'll work as AB bosun, I'll make the old man tea and sandwiches and fill out the logs, do some chart plotting. I’ll even do work ashore I don’t mind just now I just need to advance my position.
I'm happy doing 6 week trips and can travel immediately.
All I need is to get the ENG1 medical as mine is an ML5
Can anyone help or give me some advice?
