    Default Solar panels

Some years ago we had a guy here in town who designed a small wind turbine suitable to use on any house.
He also was the local undertaker at that time.

The turbine was on top of a large concrete tower and visible from the freeway for a number of years.

I met him about 10 years ago and asked how the turbine was going.

He explained attempts to get state gov to take interest but with no luck.
Local Honda offices took 40 but they were the only buyers.

He sold the patent to China and retired.

On the net today a big notice, 'Solar Panels ' things of the past.

For as little as Eu200 you can have a turbine on your roof, no need for solar panels and with wind free power for longer.

No doubt China has convinced some in EU that this is a good prospect, and in many parts of EU during winter months will do well to replace solar.
Wonder if it will take off?

Quite a few years ago B&Q were selling a very small wind turbine (500w or less possibly) for about £1700, lot of money for not much use kit. I sourced a 3kw unit, including mounting pole and conytrols for little more from China. I called my local planning office to see if I would need planning permission. No one knew if I did need it or not, so they said, just make an application for planning permission which was going to cost £300+ at the time.
Needless to say I didnt bother.

That’s an interesting story about the wind turbine. It’s amazing how innovations can struggle locally but succeed elsewhere.

With where i live , the Turbine sounds a great idae, as Solar Panels here would be virtually useless, with us getting very little Sunny days throughout the Year. In the past 3 to 4 Years Solar Panels here would not have paid at all!
Will see how things may prosper regarding Turbines! ??

For now though its Pay for what we use, and its not cheap! Grrrr!

Just got a Email from our Gas provider Yesterday , the Gas pricing is again going Up!!
    Oh Dear one cant win!!

I read a bit yesterday about the one 'Green' poli in UK parliament.
She say that they will get rid of all forms of power, gas coal, nuclear and run the country only on renewables.
Good luck with that one, Germany attempted something along those lines and has gone back to traditional ways of generating power.

I think the worst thing about fuel costs, is like recently, when prices soared over the Putin invasion. The gas companies doubled prices, and doubled profits. Yes I know they have to make profits, but you would think during these emergency times they would keep prices as low as they could. But, they didn't. They profited massively out of the crises and our gov.uk should have stepped in.
Incidentally, four of the big six energy companies in the UK are foreign owned.

Read an article today on the net all about the environment.
According to the talker, and I tend to agree with her findings, we are going about this the wrong way.
Instead of trying to save the planet we are destroying it.

Ratherf than allowing nature to take it's course with natural events such as bush fires, we attempt to stop them.
But after bush fires comes regrowth and renewal.

We mine and destroy land in an effort to build giant batteries, solar farms and wind turbines.

But do we need to go to such lengths, allow nature to take control again, stop digging up the earth in an attempt to save it.

One of the problems today is the over population of the world in general . Going back in history one can guess how much it has increased with mankind. Time will arrive not too far in the future where the biggest problem will be supplying the resources to supply the food to support so many. Just looking at the length of life expectation and what it used to be when we were younger should clarify that to a smaller extent. Go back further and is a much larger extent. Maybe the world needs wars and early death to survive in the galaxy. Only God could tell you that. JS

Nature certainly had it's methods, but we didn't like em and created vaccines and rubber boats. Nature still tries though, and I'm sure it'll win through in the end.

After reading your thread mate, made me think of that old and trusted quote? The first thing one has to do to get out of a hole, is to stop digging.
That's the way the mop flops.

My thanks to Brian for this site.
