Friday, 13th. Superstition
When I was at sea I always heard that Friday 13th was always a bad day and always had to be very careful.for accidents or a sailing day.
Ashore I thought it was just another day.
Now not so sure.................
Yesterday I took my car to the garage for its annual MOT, It failed and after the repairs it cost me £450.
I went home and started to work on my roof as I had a leak when it rained.
I got to the top of my ladder and it slipped sideways and threw me off.
I grabbed the trough and it cane away and I fell, I went through a Conifer tree and hit the six foot tall wooden fence, demolishing it, I hit the ground with wood all over me and impaled on the Barbed wire, I had to pull the barbs out of my arm and blood every where.
Anne is screaming, a neighbour three doors away heard and came over and helped me to my feet.
I went to A&E at the hospital, had a good check up, and XRAYS,
I had a fractured wrist, the cuts were cleaned and bandaged Right Wrist had splints, Anti Tetanus injection,
and a Good Glass of whisky when I got home.
I now believe that Friday 13th is just as Unlucky ashore as it is at sea.
cheers
Brian

Re: Friday, 13th. Superstition
Brian, don't think it needs to be the 13th for you to have a bad fall, In a post long ago I compared you to the Bionic man because of all the falls you had when at sea and all the resultant broken bones, time now Brian to stay on deck at all times and let someone else do the climbing we don't bounce like we used to do. Best regards for a speedy recovery and have a large tot on me. Den
PS/ 100 rupees in the post for said tot. Den

Re: Friday, 13th. Superstition
Hope you are fine Brian, but you will persist on the old lifestyle from years ago, lol, falling **** over head everywhere, lucky nothing broken. i have just had a quote to paint right round my place, including pebble dash etc, i am quite capable of doing it, but after my years at sea on deck, and 30 years in the fire service, the shore bosun won't let me climb ladders, anything for peace and quiet,so now just have to pay, but **** the expense, give the cat another canary, kt

Re: Friday, 13th. Superstition
Thank you so much for all your concerns, Gentlemen.
Greatly appreciated.
I am only 86 years old and have many more years of falling to do yet.
When my broken wrist is healed I have to repair the Gutter and drain pipe. and fence
I will let you know how I get on,.
But I will not be doing it on a Friday 13
,
In my short life I have had a Fractured skull, broke collar bone,
5 broken ribs, broken arm, and wrist. thumb., three broken legs and an ankle
So not too bad.
Cheers
Brian

Re: Friday, 13th. Superstition
Sometime in the 19th century, the Royal Navy attempted to finally dispel the old superstition among sailors that beginning a voyage on a Friday was certain to bring bad luck. To demonstrate the falseness of this belief, they decided to commission a ship named HMS Friday. Her keel was laid on a Friday, she was launched on a Friday, and she set sail on her maiden voyage on Friday the 13th, under the command of a Captain James Friday. She was never seen or heard from again.
