The french encourage them to get to UK as they want to get rid of them.
Please post a link to back up your statement. The boats and engines are being stolen from marinas and fishing boats, yes I am sure not all, but your hatred of France is just showing your ignorance of what the French authorities do to help stem the tide of these people.

It’s all been said time and time again. Years ago on this site most said then that the policy that Germany seemed to push as regards open borders and free passage to all , encouraged by Merkel and advocated by the EU was the beginnings of a death sentence for some. That is where the origin of the present trouble lies. The EU and it’s way out futuristic iideas. Hungary didn’t listen to the twaddle and closed its borders regardless, the only sane thing to do. For which it was reprimanded by Merkel among others. That’s the way I see it. Pure bad management by people who really don’t live in the world of sanity. Some of whom are as much use as a clockwork orange. Starting with unelected representatives of the building in Brussels which has all the outstanding features of the Kremlin. This is not a political party broadcast either on the part of any party. Is a statement of facts only. JS

The majority of the recent arrivals by boat seem to be Iranian who entered the E.U. via Serbia and once in the E.U. were able to travel freely to France with the ultimate aim of getting to theU.K. they appear to have plenty of money with them as the criminals running the trafficking charge from €5000 for a place in a dingy upwards to €4500 for a place on a ship. The dingies and r.i.b's being used appear to be brought in Belgium or stolen from marina's. Iran refuses to take back any of its citizens who have left in this manner but by the Dublin treaty genuine refugees should be granted leave to stay in the first safe country they reach, which in the case of these recent boat people should be Serbia or France. Why they would endanger there lives trying to reach the U.K., which should they get here they will quickly realise is not the promised land of milk and honey, is beyond me.

And they will realise that when we get in to the middle of our miserable, wet, cold, grey winter here in Uk. I wonder how many illegal migrants we have here now who wish they could leave this land of milk and honey.kt

Some MPs and NGOs are calling for more border Patrol cutters out there to rescue more people my personal feeling is the more you rescue the more will come knowing that they will be safely taken to England there was a debate on Radio 4 this morning between government officials from the UK and France if they get 12 miles off the coast of France they seem to belong to us but there is an awful lot of anglo-french cooperation going on not so much to catch this herd of boat people but to catch the traffickers

John,
I agree entirely with your statements regarding asylum laws, but I can understand to a degree why they want out of Iran and preferably here as we are still perceived to be arguably the best place to reach for many reasons.
Like many of us here I visited Iran several times in the course of my career, first time I went there was as second trip apprentice, flew to Abadan and stayed a week in the Intercontinental before driving over the desert to Bandar Mahshur to join. Venturing out from the hotel, there were many people living in absolute squalor, while others were housed in very nice accommodation, this was during the reign of the Shah andf I wondered then even as a kid how could such a rich country have such poor people.
Many years later I travelled back to Iran on business and between 2007 and 2012 visited about five times.
I had worked with Iranians while at sea and found them amiable and well educated, and found the same on my more recent visits, however the biggest noticeable difference was their fear of talking about anything with may be overheard and cause them to get into trouble with the "law".
They would only speak openly while driving, but would not discuss anything slightly dodgy in their offices or restaurants, hotels etc.
The pendulum had swung to the opposite side, oil money was not squandered by the rich elite, instead invested in arms and nuclear research (I was even shown the nuclear research installation in Tehran, smack in the middle of a residential area), with education standards falling due to the system being underfunded.
My last visit there I was only allowed 72 hours and made it out with literally 5 minutes to spare. Everything has to be cash and the money is not worth a light, my hotel bill was charged in dollars but was paid with a suitcase full of local cash, even that was so dilapidated, it took three cashiers with automatic machines ,three tries to get it tallied.

I had a bad experience, for five weeks, in Iran, many years ago, I am not allowed to speak about it, I was "told" It never happened, "Or Else".,
Of All the world it is the last place on earth I would want to visit.

I had not heard of Iranians being part of the influx of refugee's into Europe until I heard of these boat people crossing the channel from France to the UK. Iran does not allow it's people who have fled that country back into that country so it makes sense that all nationalities landing here suddenly become Iranian when they could be from anywhere knowing we cannot send them back to Iran so we are stuck with them.Put patrol boats at the 12 mile limit and turn them around do not pick them up and give them a lift here.
Regards.

The shortest distance across the strait, 33.3 kilometres (20.7 miles; 18.0 nautical miles), is from the South Foreland, northeast of Dover in the English county of Kent, to Cap Gris Nez, a cape near to Calais in the French département of Pas-de-Calais. 12 miles is not to far off stopping them on the beaches, what is a few EXTRA miles between friends.
