Peel Ports
Inchgreen Drydock , Greenock is under the control of Peel Ports and controlled by their subsidiary Peel Ports.
The Drydock has not been used for at least ten years and lies vacant.
Dale Ship Repairing who operate the Garvel Drydock, Greenock have approached Peel with a view to expanding their business in Greenock. Peel Ports refused to discuss the situation with Dales.
Jim McColl the owner of Ferguson Shipyard, Port Glasgow entered discussions with a view to leasing the dock in order for his company to build bigger ships. Offer refused.
Last year, Peel Ports destroyed the three cranes at the site, the reason given to old and costly to repair.
Peel Ports, claim that they are actively seeking work and are hoping to win the contract for drydocking the new carriers. The also stated that was the reason for removing the cranes as the new carriers would not be able to dock.
Local Politicians claim that Peel is more interested in their Merseyside Subsidiary Cammell Laird, and that the company is seeking to limit or effectively block the Greenock Facilities useage.
The Scottish Government are seeking a review with the Competition and Mergers Authority.
My own view and is one that I have held for a number of years, Peel wants to infill the dock and market the area for housing.

Re: Peel Ports
Unfortunately there is good money to be made out of housing and in general Brownfield sites which to my interpretation of the alteration to have been made to planning you can almost get planning permission or Brownfield site ie Dockyard , old steelworks for that type of premises straight through on a nod all you have to do is promise to build a few houses of the right economic profile

Re: Peel Ports
John Whittaker, Chairman of Peel Ports has written local people in Greenock, outlining Peel Ports commitment to Inchgreen Drydock.
He is hoping to announce in the near future that a number of jobs will be available at the facility.
Good news.

Re: Peel Ports
Apparently Peel Ports and an Executive of Cammell Laird met with the Local Authority last week and assured them that the drydock would have substantial investments in the near future and they hoped to employ hundreds of people. Be interesting to see if it comes off.
