Re # 27.
What happened at Glencoe was the dastardly massacre of the MacDonalds carried out by Government redcoat soldiers. Definately nothing to boast about or be proud of.
Fouro.
Only from memory won't the Campbells never be forgiven for that
My first trip on a clan line ship was about 12 months and the chief engineer who was an absolutely cracking Guy with a Highlander Who could sit down in an evening and relate the history of the Highlands from somewhere about 1202 about 17:50 . He was an absolutely fascinating speaker on a subject that he loved and believe me he had no love for what happened at Glencoe . But I many evenings that is sat in the bar and talked about the history of Scotland the Highlands in particular it was a fascinating subject . He had a jacobite ancestry and was extremely proud of it

Charles Stuart's Jacobite army consisted largely of Catholics and Scottish Episcopalians – mainly Scots but with a small detachment of Englishmen from the Manchester Regiment. The Jacobites were supported and supplied by the Kingdom of France from Irish and Scots units in French service. A composite battalion of infantry ("Irish Picquets"), comprising detachments from each of the regiments of the Irish Brigade plus one squadron of Irish in the French army, served at the battle alongside the regiment of Royal Scots (Royal Écossais) raised the previous year to support the Stuart claim.
The British Government (Hanoverian loyalist) forces were mostly Protestants – English, along with a significant number of Scottish Lowlanders and Highlanders, a battalion of Ulstermen, and some Hessians from Germany, and Austrians.
The quick and bloody battle on Culloden Moor was over in less than an hour, when after an unsuccessful Highland charge against the government lines, the Jacobites were routed and driven from the field.
Between 1,500 and 2,000 Jacobites were killed or wounded in the brief battle , with a loss of 300 on the government side
another bloodshed in the name of religion
I think Rob there is something wrong there, obviously multiculturalism has not yet arrived in Long Eaton.
As to Caribbean Chinese, never knew such existed.
They do need to do something to ease the burden on so many White British, far too many by most towns rules now.LOL
We are probably similar in this area , but for Bolton
Ethnicity classifies people according to their own perceived ethnic group and cultural
background. Since 2001 Bolton has become more ethnically diverse, however the vast
majority (four-fifths) of the population still identified themselves as White British. thatis 80% of the population
The largest minority ethnic groups in Bolton were Indian (8%), followed by Pakistani (4%)
and White Other (2%).
For the first time further information was also available on more
detailed ethnic categories and smaller ethnic groups in Bolton.
The largest growth in Bolton from 01-11 was from the Black African and Black Other
groups. Further growth was also seen in Other Asian, Other Ethnic Group and Chinese
groups, although these remain at quite small numbers overall. Caution is required when
comparing change over time in ethnic groups.
The distribution of minority ethnic groups remains predominantly around the town centre
areas of the borough, particularly Crompton, Halliwell, Rumworth and Great Lever ward
