Thanks for posting this Fouro, I knew a lot about him but sadly never saw him race. Ironic that it was a short circuit event that Bob Mac lost his life when you think of the laps he put in on road race events. There is just so much more furniture a fallen rider can hit at a road race. Like the late great William Joseph Dunlop 26 TT wins 5 world championships also killed when his bike aquaplaned and crashed into the trees. If enough interest I will do a few posts on some of the greats.

The past couple of days I've been looking for an article which was printed in the Autosport magazine some years ago. It refers to my cousin Jimmy being entered for a race on JP7 at Charterhall. During the race the big end went and Jimmy got the blame. If and when I find it I'll enter the details it contains.

Hope you find it , would be interesting to read.I love everything about bikes. I had a go at a few of road races Killinchy 150(which was held round the Dundrod circuit) same one as the UGP and is still run there to this day, but it is called the Dundrod 150 these days, the Mid Antrim150, Cookstown 100. Tanragee100, Temple 100 and the Carrowdore 100. It was not my dream it was my Dad pushed me into doing it. I had been riding dirt bikes from when I was no age
Anyway the road racing game was not for me. My mates used to call me Avon, not after the cosmetics after the tyres as I used to cover more miles on my backside than I did on the bike. I just could not stay on the dammed things. Day to day riding I am steady enough and when I was younger I was reasonably quick and rarely had an off. I grew up 15 minutes from Dundrod and still to this day I know it like the back of my hand.
My Dad and I had a falling out about it the racing. I knew I was just not good enough and also I knew I was more of a danger to other riders. I had a bad off at the Killinchy 150 and took two other guys down with me, my fault entirely. Thankfully we all walked away but that did me with it. I love watching it but with more and more fatalities year on year I am growing away from it.

Nice one, In the 60's at the UGP I have seen Jim Redman Mike Hailwood , ride the Honda 250 4's and also the a year later on the 250 6 cylinder 250's also Luigi Taveri and Ulsterman Ralph Bryans on the 125cc 5 cylinder bikes. You could hear them coming from about 2 miles away. Tommy Robb says he is deaf because of these bikes.
