I may again be wrong but during the national service era which was 2 years, did the RN if you wanted to go into that service you had to do 3 years. Seem to remember there was a bit of confusion and the national service title may have had a different title for the RN. A friend of mine who finished up a trawler skipper was telling me one time rather than put him in the Navy they put him in a highland regiment, and he did 3 years in any case one of them in the glasshouse, would not accept the discipline and used to throw his rifle at the drill sergeant. I see that a car has traversed Scotland powered soley by the by products of whisky waste. Scotland has 750,000 tonnes of Draff (Kernels of barley), 2 Billion litres of potale (water used in distilling process) per annum which together with some other non oil related products produces biobutanol which can be used in petrol and diesel engines without them being modified.
No mention of what effect the exhaust fumes will have on the population, but the Whisky industry may just be cutting its own throat, because if you can get pizzed just walking along the street there is no sense in buying any of the stuff.

##36 Lmao Ivan, my one and only DR was given by the Master of the RFA Wave Ruler, on the 7th July 1960, I was not the only one , the whole non company crew walked off her in Leith our part of the 1960 seaman's strike, I have three discharges in my book from the Wave Ruler, two VG's a VG DR and 2 VG's , even the ships cat tried to come ashore with us, we all re joined 21st July and headed back to the Icelandic cod war.....Happy days
