Des Middlesborough is not too far from Geordie land where they sometimes are mistaken for being Welsh as sound similar to some. If not a Geordie a Makum and takum who I don't think anyone would call English except Cappy who emigrated close to a number of years ago. My old man was a Geordie born and bred and I sometimes couldn't make out what he was saying and had to ask the wife(then girlfriend what the hell he was tarking aboot) no good asking my Mother as she would burst out in Gaelic at least she said it was, sounded like curse words to me spoken very fast. One of my male cousins married a catholic and remember it caused a lot of controversy in the family, why I still don't understand why.. Cheers JS

"Wayay yamaha" That is like Japanese.

Liverpool's history is Welsh. More people spoke the Welsh language there than in any city in Wales. It was a Welshman who saw the potential of Toxteth , then just an overgrown wasteland. He built the worlds first streets of terrace houses , which were easier to heat and easier to build being one continues row. All the building materials came from the brick factories and slate mines of Wales as did the workers who were vetted by the Welsh church. Irishmen were only employed as a last resort if there was a shortage of Welsh workers. The houses built were of the finest quality of the time with attention to detail , nothing was skimped. Many are still lived in today but many more have fallen into decline and are due for demolition.
150 Welsh people sailed from Liverpool to form the community in Patagonia.

Louis I don't know how well you know County Road Liverpool this area built by a Welsh builder all the streets working from Spellow Lane spell William And Owen after his two sons.Wilbur St.Ismay St,Lind St.etc.By where I lived we had Holywell,Flint,Anglesey,Rhyl, and a few other Welsh names which were most probably built by a Welshman.Corner of our street was a large Welsh chapel which was taken over during the war and converted to a National Canteen.

Hi Jim although I was born and raised not to far from you I have a mental block in remembering street names and various places. Did County road lead on to Stanley road ?
It was only recently that I learned of the huge contribution the Welsh made to Liverpool and the streets named after Welsh people and places. I was reading about the mixed feelings of Liverpool people , those who wanted to modernise the old houses and those who wanted them demolished.
Just remembered also the ship carrying the Welsh to Patagonia was named Mimosa .

Well good on him.If he's earned so much money through his comedy shows,TV appearances etc.then he can obviously afford to donate to charity.
There IS something to like about the man after all!

I have visited Ricky Thomlinsons night club many times { The Green Room } When you enter the club on Duke Street Liverpool if Rick is there he is sat in the reception anyone can sit and have a chat and a free glass of wine which is paid for in your ticket with him he is a down to earth guy, He only employes local lads and lasses from the arts acadamy across the road from the club. The entertainment always starts with one of the acadamies singers. Because he is a great beleiver in giving local kids a chance, He only ever sells 300 tickets for his shows at very reasonable prices { Why } Because it seats 300 people and the local students from the acadamy wait on, You never go the bar and only leave your seat to spend a penny, He is one of Liverpools most respected comedians who by the way doesnt drink alcohol, He is a true entertainer. The night doesnt finish at midnight like most shows, He has a disco from midnight till 2am if you can handle it. A true gent Terry.

Ricky has a rare skin condition Nodular Prurigo maybe that is why he looks like he could do with a good wash most unfortunate for him to be suffering this complaint.His mother was a cleaner and worked in an ice cream factory.
Ricky admits to being a Whingeing Scouser and I will Whinge until they are made to pay,he says.
