Wearing of medals

One final from me on medals without trying to impinge on others feelings or private thoughts on the matter. The official cox. of the FRC on the 6 July 1988 from the Silver Pit, used to phone me at various times here in Australia, but some time years ago ceased to do. One of the last times he phoned me was to say he had lost his George Medal. I made a few enquiries by phone and email and got various answers, which I wont repeat on here. However after a period of time have been made aware that the same medal is in a Museum. I found this on the Internet but where cant remember. I certainly hope that all the previous crew of the Silver Pit are alive and well. I know at least two are still alive, however after I emigrated to Australia lost contact apart from phone calls, the path of the lost medal would probably make a story on its own in the non fiction category of course. Every man has a private life and whilst disasters happen no one thinks of those people who have domestic and private problems and the Piper Alpha was no exception, so all I can say to the other 8, is I hope all your problems if any were little ones,( not referring to the now next generation). Seamen in general more than likely consider medals very nice, but just part of a completed job. Probably throw in a drawer and forget about. JWS
