    Default uber taxis

Very rarely get up to London these days, but just been talking to a friend that with his wife have been up in London to meet his son. He was saying everyone is using the Uber taxis, go on the phone and they are there in minutes, and cheap, one driver did not know where to go, so my friends son had to talk him in. Obviously big trouble with the black cabs, they say Uber drivers not vetted, and mostly not insured, so will be interesting to see the outcome. My friend said London is like a different country to the rest of us, with prices to match, KT

Uber has taken off big time here in Oz, have a nephew doing it. Most state govs are not sure what to do, legalize or ban and they stuff around. But in the ACT the gov there has made it legal and this morning it was announced that feral politicians can use them. That will put pressure on the others to follow suit.
Unlike London taxis which are world renowned for service and knowing ALL THE ROUTES, ours here are some times unable to communicate in English, know where to go, smell like a sewer and often the face on the permit is not the one driving. Uber is so popular now it is killing the other services.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

This system has just started in Auckland and the Taxi Licencing Authority has said that it is OK for them to operate so long as the same rules apply to Uber drivers as do to regular drivers and there is still no requirement to speak English. Owner / Drivers from the sub continent seem to dominate the Auckland market and the service is so bad that I refuse to use it preferring to arrange something with a friend or relative to get me to and from the Terminal. Regards Peter in NZ.

    Hi John.
Here in NSW the Govt have legalized UBER, they have to conform to the same things that the Taxi Companies do, they have dropped the huge price of a Cab license plates, if it is going to happen the Govt wants a piece of the action.
    Cheers Des
