Re: Solar Eclipse
Just shows without the Sun there would be no life on earth certainly no human life as we know it, it is something most tangible, visible, and almighty powerful. It has been replaced by various religious and so called messengers of such. The sun like most things in history went out of fashion as a deity when man provided something else in its place, and the world has never stopped fighting over their own personal beliefs ever since. Who says ancient man was backward. JS

Re: Solar Eclipse
The Sun... As we know it is the biggest star in our universe, and the earth only one of its satellites. From very early learning about celestial knowledge one of the first things learned was that the earth moved around the Sun at varying speeds, this would appear to the observer that the sun was moving around the earth. This apparent track extended to the celestial heavens is called the equinoctial ( or maybe have wrong and is the Ecliptic one of them is right). The Earth in addition to moving round the sun is also inclined 23.5 degrees from the perpendicular to the plane of its orbit. Thus causing the earth to have seasons. From this assumption probably billions of years ago the earth was probably hit by some other meteor and knocked off balance. Never mind Climate change, people are never going to change the natural events of such, maybe cut back the pollution for the likes of people with chest complaints, but never going to do much more. The earth in various stages of its evolution has undergone all meteorological events including ice ages without the input of man into the same. The earth without the sun would be non existent as regards human life as we know it. It can well be seen that our forefathers had the initative to worship as a tangible evidence of fact as a life giving Deity. The Earth also in its track round the sun rotates on its own axis every 24 hours or so. On its track around the sun when furthest from sun is said to be in Aphelion, and when closest in perihelion. I am sure that any youngsters at sea nowadays must also be taught this still with a few more pertinent facts. If they are not I would question their ability to use the old methods of celestial navigation. A Siderial day or star day is 23 hours 56 minutes and 27 seconds. How do I know because I was told by old salts 60 plus years ago. Cheers JS
