Re: Possibly not interesting enough but!
First car I remember was a Lanchester with a pre selected gear box, not sure how long we had it but dad was not so keen on it.
Recall one voyage on leave my mate came around with a motorbike. He had trouble starting it so i told him it was easy.
Got on in my just bought new suit and decided to do a jump start. Put it in gear, pulled in the clutch and set off down the hill.
Let oit the clutch and in one instant learned how to fly. Over the handlebars into a fence then over it. The bike went its own way and the new suit, well that went to the rag bag I am sorry to tell.
Re: Possibly not interesting enough but!
One of the toughest cars I ever had was a Russian LADA. built with extra thick steel, like driving a T54 Tiger Tank.
No power steering, You had to have arms like Rocky Marciano to steer.
over the years I had it, many cars bumped into me and they all crumpled, Not a mark on the LADA.
Felt very safe in that. I later gave it to my son who was a Student at Liverpool University, He demolished a few Liverpool cars with it.
Very good cars, easy to Service and maintain.
Cheers

Re: Possibly not interesting enough but!
In August 1971 we, the family, all flew Aeroflot Illusion from Singapore to Moscow and after a few days on to London. The Singapore/Delhi/Moscow stretch had a couple of stewardesses also built like tanks. Then in the hotel in Moscow we had women, all built like tanks, at a desk on each floor keeping an eye on everyone that came, went and stayed. No music or TV but the view through the window made up for it. A car - probably a Lada - stopped, a bloke jumped out and ran across the green, a few men suddenly appeared, caught him, beat and kicked the crappers out of him and left him to stagger off.
Climbed aboard a crowded tram and a lovely old lady smiled and gave the children her seat dismissing our protestations.

Richard walking along the quay passing a rusky boat looking down on the well deck there is the biggest women I ever seen{officer} barking orders at the crew she was like twins with one head I would not like a crack of her??jp
Re: Possibly not interesting enough but!
John #47 Maybe a tankard too may.
And #48 As she came down the aisle on Aeroflop everyone in aisle seats leaned inwards. If the plane lurched and she sat on you you'd end up like a bacon rasher. I must say though, the marinated fish and roe they served was delicious. Also you could see ahead where all the commy officials travelling they minced around them like gigantic butterflies.
