I have a lot of posts on here BUT Never Ever go on facebook or twatter or any where else.
and I live a very full and active life.
I charge around the planet for 2 to 3 months a year, I am in Bolton, if not, I am in Fleetwood tasting Williams famous Bacon Barms.
I have just had a big work out in my home gym, lifting weights and on the exercise bike, and now I am just having a breather. not bad for a 79 year old.
I have a 20 minute break on here then carry on with my activities.
I have just had a good interesting and long conversation on the phone with our Roger Dyer in NSW Australia, so who needs facebook.? a phone call is more special than reading a message on facebook, how sad that people lose the art of conversation just because Facebook is free. Is that what you think of your friends and family, is that all they are worth?
Cheers
Brian.
I was wary for years re: Twitter, it is actually a mine of information and you are only in contact with those that you wish to follow. MN Tribute and commemoration is well covered as is WW1. Suits me down to the ground. Many of the organisations that I deal with are featured, though I do not contact many friends or family via Twitter. Like anything if used wisely there are many benefits. A fair few on site use it but as said I just follow the lines that I need and each to there own, would recommend but it really is the individuals choice. Guess a bit like Marmite, you either like it or hate it.

JUST AN EXAMPLE OF WHY I USE FACEBOOK:
Hello fellow World War 1 Enthusiasts! This is just a quick note from the admin. First of all, I’m glad to see all the interest out there in the group I created several years ago! The numbers have been steadily rising lately, and it humbles me to see the appreciation for history that I have is shared by others. It is our responsibility to preserve history, debate it, learn from it, share it, and protect it. I’d like to address a few issues that have been brought to my attention lately. First, I created this group approximately 7 years ago, and it hasn’t been until recently that it has shown much activity which is one of the reasons for my neglect to monitor it. I am as well, a full time active member of the military, and it keeps me rather busy. I also no longer have home internet and am limited as to what I can due through my mobile smart phone. The only thing I am capable of doing through my phone is adding people who request to join. I don’t give it much thought, as I figure everyone who asks to join has an interest in the topic of the group, so I accept all requests. The spam/spammers that you claim to see, is not visible to me. The few that I do see, I remove. I suspect that once I’ve added these spammers, they block me so that I’m not able to see their posts. I will be adding a new admin who also has the groups best interests at hand to help me clean things up and perhaps suggest new ideas, and take the group in new directions based on everyone’s interests! I ask all to please be patient, keep your political views separate, and no trash talking. Thanks again for joining!

You must have sold a fair few Bacon Barm Cakes then. Apparently the best up North. Will visit ASAP as a secret shopper, then say hello. No worries or doubts, the word of all on site is good enough for me. Will try to pop along next time visiting friends Wigan way.

All wonderful stuff now, if it breaks down chuck it and buy a new one. Live longer but in more pain and see the health servuice unable to cope with the extra demand. Buy a new item only to see a new version out next day, oh the wonders of modern technology.
My views on how modern day lives are different from years ago.
Often see stressed out parent / parents leaving their pre school kids at what amounts to a prison to be kept there until collected at the end of the day.
What happened to when kids of this age where allowed to play in the street under the watchful eye's of other parents during the day. Playing with others of nearly the same age. Also building up immune system and friendships that would last for years and in many cases until death. Yes along with the loss of the MN and that adventurous era that thankfully we loved and miss. We have also given away teaching our kids to adopt an adventurous and probing mind.
Answer is that there is no parent available today because they are out there earning the money to pay for their kids caring where as years ago in a one wage earner family there was always a parent looking after them.
Outcome is that todays parents are stretched to the limit to pay out big money for the upkeep of the kids and in such are no further ahead than the parents of years ago. Money was also very tight years ago for a lot of our parents so really has having both parents working really made things better for them. Not to mention that problems where nearly always resolved around the dinning room table as the family sat down to discuss events of the day. Where does the modern kids of today discuss things like this? Not with the family but some one encountered on the internet and try and tell me that is healthy for them.
The only ones that benefit from this are those that provide so called service usually supplied by some government agency who in turn get the funding from the tax payer. Are we better off or has the whole society been conned by governments and big business. Lets face facts kids where a lot safer under the watchful eye of say a majority of mums and information regarding what was happening within the street also led to greater security for the whole street. Sure money was tight then but the same can be said for today as most of it goes out to pay others to bring up the kids of today and at the end of the day modern mum’s are to bloody knackered at the end of the day to be interactive with their own kids. Personally we have been duped and conned for years. Now what happens is we are very informed by what the media moguls want us to know and have lost the local knowledge of what is happening in our own street and our kids are getting so isolated from normal interaction with local kids it has become a joke. Think this would answer a lot of questions as to what is wrong with modern life and hence why I think technology has a lot to answer for. End of rant.
PS Could have condensed this all down to one word really. Greed
