Happy days seafaring
I FOUND THIS PHOTO OF ME TAKEN 63 YEARS AGO IN THE SPICE ISLANDS
WHAT A FANTASTIC LIFE,
what kind of occupation is like that.?
Straw hat, sarong and flip flops and a bottle of grog,
today,,,,,,,, hard hat, white boiler suit, gloves, steel toe capped boots, goggles. DRY SHIP,
DRIFTING AROUND THE SPICE ISLANDS. The Captain`s uniform was also a sarong, but a different pattern, from everyone else,
Going ashore in the best sarong, a beautiful `mic mac `waiting by the gangway in a rickshaw.
Pure Paradise
better than in an office, a factory. or anywhere else, even home, The married men didnt want to go home after 6 months.
Those days have gone for ever never to return. We were the last of the Seafarers, the world will not see our likes again.
Sad
Brian

The Captains Serong was a different colour Brian, so anyone could pick him out and hold responsible for all misdemeanours of crew or ship and fathers of sobbing daughters. Usually meant handovers of large amounts of cash. JS

Re: Happy days seafaring
Hi Brian.
All the worries and woes of running a home had not arrived then, we were as free as anything on earth and as happy as Larry, good on you Larry who ever you were.

Re: Happy days seafaring
Well Brian, I have learned from such attire.
Very close to much of what I wear all year.
Sliders on my feet, short sleeved shirts and if required in cooler months short sleeved jumper.
But my hat is very special, an Acubra of the finest quality, and for the colder months a leather squashie.

So Brian, a question without notice.
