Hi Jamie, Wonder if you remember me Peter Smith. We sailed on Northern Star 1974. Sorry I can not join your NZ Branch. Have you been back to the Isle of Bute recently? Cheers Peter

Hi Chris ~ thanks for your message ~ almost 12 months ago ~ gosh how time flies and I dont check the website often!! I think UK Society will have more contacts and info on ships than we have here ~ but if you contact Barney on this webpage - he served I think on Carnatic and definitely with Crusader ! My apologies for not replying sooner ~ its good webpage and now I have retired hope to spend more time catching up with old ship mates.
Cheers Jamie

Re: Shaw Savill Society NZ Branch
Hi Chris
Just checking my discharge book as the ship and dates sounded familiar!...and there it is Carnatic 12.10.71 - 23.10.71 Second Engineer. Almost all the names you used in your post I recall.
I had just returned to the UK after a number of years with the Crusader fleet in the Pacific serving mainly on the Saracen and recall seeing the Carnatic on the NZ coast. I must admit the yellow funnel and shield seemed a bit out of place on the 'old girl'.
...I trust all is well with you and yours
Regards

Seeking Allen ‘Ringo’ Smith
Hi, a family member is seeking former Shaw Savill seaman Allen or Alan ‘Ringo’ Smith, who sailed on the Icenic which berthed in Nelson, NZ, in 1964. Does anyone know what happened to Allen or where he ended up? Any contact details or suggestions of who to ask or where to look gratefully received. Thanks, Peter Allison

Re: Seeking Allen ‘Ringo’ Smith
Hi Peter
Just seen your posting from August last year, sorry I do not use this website very often.
Its difficult to track personnel from 57 years ago, but could be helpful to know if Ringo was deck or engine crew. I know records of Engine room crew are recorded for most of the cargo fleet, but deck dept, the records are not so good.
Perhaps he was Catering and I keep in touch with quite a few of the stewards from mid 60's.
I was a Purser, on the passenger fleet from 1967-73.
If you read this , please reply by email to brandane69@yahoo.co.uk as you can see few Shaw Savill personnel use this website, and we have Shaw Savill Society been running since 1975,
Cheers Jamie Shedden, Shaw Savill Society, NZ Branch
