Yeah Duke. Agree with you the run up to Rosario on the rio parana was something again. As for the girls yes they were rather special. Knew 3 sisters Sulma, Marta and Rosa. Nice girls and all beauties, all spoke English along with French and German and this thicKo could just about order a beer in Spanish. Did you ever go up farther to Santa Fe which is about as far possible on the rio parana? Mike;):D:p

Naw Mike, I didn't go further than Rosario. Check Allen's earlier post, he went up there, dunno what ship though. What ship were you on up there? Take any polo horses back with you?
Did that run many times, 1958/59 in the DEVIS, Pair of BA boots & leather jacket, then up to Rosario, prettiest girls in Argentina, probably in S. America! Happy days!.;)

Hi Duke. Was on the Shaftesbury from 61-62. One of Houlders. Not a bad ship and a fair crowd aboard. Think the C/Stwd was called Meachin or mealing and from L'pool. The Mate was ex Grey Funnel line by the name of Ainstey lived in or near Newport. Very much a gentleman. The 'Old Man' was from Sunderland area and a good bloke. Cook was a Scouser and 2nd cook from Glasgow then another Scouser took his place. One of the biggest blokes on there was the 3rd Mate Meurig Lewis stood about 6' 4" and built like a proverbial brick whatever came from Llanduddno and great to have a laugh and joke with.
Did carry out a couple of horses one trip plus a pedigree bull (Hereford). Hey thanks mate you made me get the old grey matter going. Mike:D:p;)

Hey Nauti. When I came ashore I worked in the P.O. in Cardiff( wife Welsh see). Chap there who was at one time an apprentice with Reardon Smith and I were talking about the prettiest girls. Me I said the Argentine he said Chile, but we both agreed that on a nice summers day you could see plenty of cracking girls in the parks or shops in Cardiff who would give them a run for their money. We stood on the corner of Park Place and Queen St., and yeah they were crackers, well I married one. Mike:p;):D

Did trip on Darro 60/61 Not a good ship as your first trip to sea. Grew up very quick in Santos!!
Also did a trip on Aragon in 1967. Blue star line in between. If you would like to see some film of Santos/Sao Paulo/Monti and BA. Plus Highland Cheftain outside Montivideo. Take a look under Blue Star Line DVD.
