OH MY GOD, So many memories !!!!
I remember the Roundhouse, it was the only place where you could change your advance note.
Although the landlord would take a shilling for every pound changed !
I also remember the Bent sorry the Kent Arms. Such great times we'll never see again. ;)

there was a barbers in east ham high street who would change your advance note, at least in 1948-9.

Does any one remember the Chinese Take-Away that was between the Round House and the Kent Arms, they used to do a chicken Leg in curry sauce over fried rice? It was so nice that I used to take one home to Faversham in Kent when I was going on leave. I have not been able to get one anywhere since those days back in the 60s, but it still stays in my mind. I must admit in all the years I drank in that area I never noticed the Chinese Eatery, I must have been either Three sheets to the Wind or in too much of a hurry to begin a Drinking session. all the best Glenn

Hi Mick A the round house on the corner great place good dinner time watering hole, out the wicket gate 100 yards down the road and lunch was waiting for you, as you say those were the days you could get p----d for a pound and still have change for fish and chips. what a dive that was across the road, the old dear where her face was all scolded by a flash back from the fryer, I was in there one night well tanked up, and a crowd of Norwegians came in also tanked up, they started on about the old lady saying she had the pox and did not want her to serve them, any how the place was in uproar fighting broke out windows were smashed along with all the furniture, the old bill arrived and carted us off round the corner to the cop shop, until we all cooled off a little, the norge boys all got fined for criminal damage, I got let off thankfully as the old girls husband said i was helping him calm them down, great punch up though. best wishes to times gone by, Darrell Kellett:D

Hi i'd for gotten all about the T&L girls I was 16 at the time just prior to signing no my first ship, Iwas staying with my gran at the time in Hackney, got on the bus at Woolwich only one on it, got down the road to T & L's
Iwas surrounded by girls one sitting on my knee, one in the seat next to me two behind and in front, the one on my lap was trying to choke me to death with her toungue, the one next to me was trying to lick my brains out with her toungue while her hand was getting my trousers undone, somebody else was trying to get my shirt off, god was I glad to get off at Canning Town what an experience though, as you say did not catch that bus again. best wishes Darrell P.S that was Aug 1960.:D

Don't tell me mate you did not get on the bus again until the next day! Reminds me of a bus ride up north back in the 60's. I was working by on a new tanker in Sunderland but staying overnight with a reli. Used to get the bus home and the bus went past the rope factory. Female workers got on the bus scaring the life out of me and the conductor with their language and carry on. Life was so much different then.

I remember there being a sign on a plaque on the bar in the Round House saying lift in case of fire?. When I lifted it,( as you do ) ,underneath was another sign which said, not now stupid c**t, I said in case of fire,

I sailed on the Port Pirie 9th December 1967 to 21st April 1968 we did Australia got money for loading at Tasmania then over to NZ, Good crowd we had a good Bar on there, Payed off KG5 I stayed at the Flying Gashbucket Hilton, I think it was 7/6 a nite not sure spent lots of time in the Kent Arms and the Roundhouse.
