On a more serious note my wife is blinkered about sorting things out before one shuffles off to fiddlers green. Anytime I bring the subject up I get , I don't want to discuss it. I cannot understand why , we are all heading out the door feet first whether we like or not. Even when I did insist that my son is named on the deeds , she said by doing that he could put me out of the house and sell it. No he cannot and no he would not do that either. He is a good lad. He will be the one with the problem as when he comes to sell it and living in France he could get hit with 60% tax as it may well be classed as a second home. But for now he rents in Bordeaux so the UK property cannot be classed as a second home.
Getting to the stage as we get older it is more expensive to live and also nearly to expensive to die.
Ah well the sun is shinning and time for a coffee on the patio.

Yeah Johnny that’s a care home. Just google RAAFA village meadow springs that’s where I live but is not classed as a care home but for active retirees.i The uk never had retirement
Villages when I lived there or if they did they were few and far between. Cheers JS The village does encompass a care home on its grounds if one could afford it. JS.

Unless you did it a good few years back you could still be in jeopardy. There is a rule called deliberate disposal of assets which means that there is a six year gap between your action and snuffing it. So for example if you took some sort of action and then had to go into care three years afterwards the authorities could claim deliberate disposal if your wife was not resident.

Correct Johnny, my wife worked as an administrator in care homes for some years and could confirm that; if they are not making money then why do they continue to build new ones.

It's just that we work all our lives to get what we have, but many don't. They just ponce off the state and it winds me up, because it's our money that keeps the state, so we pay for all of them as well as ourselves.
I'm not knocking the unfortunate people that for genuine reasons of health can't work, but the UK is full to the brim of ponce's, that live their whole lives poncing.

The ones that really annoy me are those on all sorts of benefits but still work in what I will call the black economy, CASH IN HAND!!!

But we are all guilty at one time or another trying to get a deal. One guy I said what discount for cash ? big intake of breath 5%, come on you telling me I pay you cash you will declare it to the taxman yes offcourse I do, okay how about 10%, I will go with you for 15%, we settled on 12.5%

The life style and retirement villages here in Oz have a minimum entrance age of 55.
Some have people still working living there.

No death duties here in Oz and you can transfer monies at a fixed rate per year to reduce risks.

But if you go first no worries mate, some one else will have the problem.

But one thing you should have in place is power of attorney, if you are crook and in need of care there should be someone there to take care of that if your dependent is not able.

Seems to be a bit of division in trump land, with eon musk calling the trade rear dumber than a sack of bricks.

#36 John Oz,same here in the UK you can gift money to your children tax free £3000 in a tax year but as mentioned by Johnny K you need to know what you are doing and not pop your clogs for 7 years.

Trump is in danger of losing the mid term elections come Novemeber 2026, according to some analysts in the USA. If inflation rises and because of increased costs to US manufacturing that will lead to job loses especially in Trump heartlands , Agriculture, vehicle production and Aircraft sales.
One company who will be heavily hit will be the Irish Carrier Ryanair largest airline in Europe.
They say these new tarriffs will add a further €400million to costs which they will pass on to the Passengers.
Also Ryanair have a deal in place for $22 billion new aircraft being built by Boeing, this deal is now under review. Ryanair do not own any aircarft, they lease them from Boeing.

Ryanair Holdings Group has 610 aircraft: 410 737-800s, 173 737 MAX 8-200s, 26 A320ceos, and a single 737-700. It also has Learjet 45s to ferry spare parts, maintenance crews.

Ireland will be heavily impacted by the Tariffs especially in the Pharmaceuticals companies like Pfizer & Johnson & Johnson have major plants in and around the Cork area.. France and especially Bordeaux region will really take a hit they reckon they export over €9 billion in wines to the USA.
