Some years ago we were in Italy and took a catamaran trip to Venice.
Fine on the way out, but coming back the sea was rough as guts.
So bad we heard the crew singing prayers!!!!
Was the tallest in the world when it was fitted.
Re: British superyacht sinks in Sicily
Seem to recall when the Andrea Doria and the Stockholm collided in 1956 the Stockholm sealed the bow section off and as they pulled out of the Andrea Doria they heard a baby crying it was trapped in the wreckage of the Stockholms bow, they unsealed the bow section got the baby out alive with only a broken arm, as you say strange things happen at sea.
Re: British superyacht sinks in Sicily
56-metre length with a 75-metre mast seems out of proportion to me. Built in 2008, rebuilt in 2020.
Sad loss of life. The captain's evidence will make interesting reading.

Second tallest mast in the world on a sailing yacht, second only to an 80 metre mast on another yacht.
72 x 39.3 / 12 =235.8 feet John, but I stand to be corrected , you probably meant 237 and not 273, got your sandals on the wrong feet again. cheers

Quite right. Don't speculate. Wait for the MAIB report.
Re: British superyacht sinks in Sicily
1 metre is equal to 3.280 ft. Or 1.093 yards or 0.546 of a fathom. Never could get used to these French measurement. And that’s only to 3 decimal places. JS

Ivan, the main mast on the Cutty Sark is only 47 meters!!!!!!!!

Statement from the Chief Exectutive of the group that built the yacht, "these yachts are unsinkable", now where have we heard that before, mmm?
Re: British superyacht sinks in Sicily
We have to wait for the M.A.IB investigation to be published before definitive answers to the cause of the tragedy are given but reliable sources are saying that the keel was not fully extended but that could have happend when the yacht struck the bottom.
The captain has already been questioned and said he was aware of the weather conditions at the time.
With only one crew member, the cook, dying questions are being asked as to why more of the passengers were not aware of the conditions and could have been saved.

John talking about the Cutty Sark and the yacht is like comparing apples with potatoes, two entirely different entities, or perhaps I've lost something in translation:th_thth5952deef:
