When my daughter nearly 40 years ago now did a degree in Bachelor of Education , for the history part of this first class Honours degree she had to do the Hitler years I doubt very much her idea of such and what those who lived through those same years were in line and miles apart. Anyhow she satisfied the examiners and walked out with a first class Bachelor of Education regardless. History is what you make it and means different things to different people. However the first 5 years she taught in Scotland who required further advances in the B. ED. So they must have higher standards in their schools. JS

They did back then John, arguably the best education in the UK; however, education standards have slipped in Scotland, since the cake is sliced differently these days.

#5 Des, That’s what the Soviet Union and China and other such hard line Regimes did and does . It hasn’t helped them be more tolerant and peaceful . I think the world becoming more secular and adherence to the fanatical followers in all Faiths is helping sow division and suppresses kindness and love and compassion for fellow Man.
We need to stand up and make our so called Leaders step back from this abyss before we all turn into bit players from 1984

Yes - that has become apparent of late. Brother in law was in the RAF - he told me it wasn't the done thing anymore to button up your coat, look into the sky, and declare: 'There's a Nip in the air'.

Castle Rankine was a POW camp only a mile from our little village. When I was young, not that I was interested what the prisoners were called but I never heard any of the villagers refer to them as Nazis. When they came to the village under guard to do jobs they were very friendly with us kids during their break.

#16 . Fouro for a short time a matter of a few weeks my father was stationed at Dingwall Castle before going out to the Far East and we all moved up there for his embarkation leave. I remember the Italian POWs used to work as gardeners on the grounds and were accepted by the towns folk as part of the community , suppose a lot stayed on after the war those that learned to speak Gaelic at least. Going back to #12 and education, I have 4 grand kids all with degrees, one with a Ph. D. , to me it doesn’t make them any wiser or worldly wise. I have found during my lifetime some of the most lacking of people with a poor knowledge of life in general all have degrees. Those with the knowledge of worldly affairs are those who have gone out there and practised the art of survival in a very topsy turvy world. Most of the brainy ones are self taught and not lectured to by left leaning university tutors. Cheers JS.
