You can obtain a full copy of the Report of Enquiry (Report of Court No 8068) from Southampton Reference Library (Maritime Special Collections). I think you might be able to download it online - just give them a ring and ask. There's also an article titled 'Plucked from the Cruel Sea' published in the Southampton edition of the Echo. I think the date is 8 November 1979, but the print at the top of the page is obscured in my copy. In addition, there is an article in The Times for 21 February 1980, page 3 reporting on the inquest. You'll probably find more information on the Gosport inquest via The News, a Portsmouth newspaper, around late February 1980. If you get really stuck come back to us and I may be able to help further.

I still have a copy of the Daily Telegraph reporting on the Inquest. Thursday 21 1980.
I also have a copy of 36 pages of questions I was asked at the Court of Inquiry, not the Inquest.

I've just been reading the posts in this thread. It's heart-rending. My dad was Bill Sherlock who died on 30 September 1979 in Cumbria. He was a skipper with James Fisher & Sons of Barrow. Eric Carvill who was a great friend of my dad came to his funeral, and was so soon after drowned, as well as his wife Doris. I remember them both so well, and feeling so absolutely chilled at the news of their deaths, so soon after that of my dad. As children, my sister and I, we visited the Pool Fisher. I remember meeting with some of the sons of Eric and Doris. I so hope that they're okay. Also all the devasted families of those who lost their lives when the Pool Fisher sank, I send my heartfelt condolences. Time doesn't much seem to heal the passing of those we loved, but I can remember them as they were, wonderful people.

Sorry to hear of the death of your Father just before the Pool Fisher disaster.
I attended the inquest on the 13 dead seafarers including Doris and met her son, As said before only three bodies were recovered including Doris, Eric was never found. Their son, I presume the eldest was only 17 years old at the time, I was horrified but not as much as their son would have been, when the Pathologist read out his report on his Mother Doris, I wont go into details but it was horrific I thought, and totally uneccessary, I felt for the poor lad and so recently orphaned.
Doris was recovered by HMS Cardiff, A crew member of that ship wrote and said she was frozen in an embrace with another dead crewman, a very poignant scene. It seemed she would have died of Hyperthermia rather than drowning.
Sorry to be so graffic, It is now 32 years ago next month, and seems only yesterday.

I was so sorry that Eric Carvill was never found, along with the other poor souls who weren't recovered. That in itself was/is more dreadful that I can say. Eric and Doris were kind and wonderful people, and I am more sorry that I can say that their son, and the other families had to endure the inquest.

That Doris was found along with another in those terrible circumstances gives some ease in at least they were found.

A terrible happening which still wakes me up at night, even after all these years. If anyone does know of how their family fared, I think Eric and Doris had four sons, I would be so pleased to hear of them.

I took up family history after my dad died, only to find so many of his family were fishermen/lifeboatmen in Hoylake, Wirral. As you will appreciate, even more stories of how difficult life was at sea then, and now.

I cannot find any reference for the name of Eric and Doris`s` son, only that he was 17 years old at the time of their deaths. That would make him 49 years old now.
I know that a Captain Ivor, who had previously sailed on the Pool Fisher was a close friend of the Carvills.He had written on a site, SHIPS AND HARBOURS, No.358 about the sinking. maybe if he can be traced he may know the sons.
It would be good for you if they could be traced.

If you go to SHIPS and HARBOURS, on GOOGLE, page 358, Pool Fisher,
The second letter down is from Captain Ivor, he says he knew Eric and Doris Carver well.
Then scroll down to the bottom of the page there is a panel to send a mail to him.
The site then sends him an email and he should then contact you with what he knows.
