I don't think anyone on this site could build a model of the 'Ship of the Fens' as it was originally built in the small City of Ely over a thousand years ago.

Actually John I have visited Ely Cathedral several times and I would let you know the reason it is nicknamed the 'Ship of the Fens' is it seen all over the Fenlands.

Cutty Sark broke the record for 1883, reaching London in 84 days.
In 1884, Broke her own record reached London in 80days.

Hi Des. I have a model of the Thermopylae on a shelf above my computer. It is was bought as a present from the local Maritime Museum so not accurate. It fits in with the rest of the collection.

Hi Bill.
I like that, it's a lovely model, nothing like a sailing ship to show up engine driven ships. On saying that I have a painting I did of a London tug that is on the site somewhere, and also have a series of pics of London tugs on the wall.. As I have said before I wish I'd had my brothers luck to have been on the last grain ship the Pamir to go around the Horn.

Of course, the skipper of Cutty Sark did not want to get the sails wet, buggers to haul kin when they are.
