miniature merchant ship models

Hi Davy,
Hopefully and herewith a couple of photos. Stirling Castle and Carpathia both 1" to 75 ft. The display cases look as if they have been splattered with something but not so !. Both as clear as glass!!

Major problem is getting old and the eyes strat to dim. I used to put ships in bottles, but stopped a couple of years ago, still have two bottles in the wardrobe all painted up but with nowhere to go, a bit like an old sailor.

Hi Les, I liked your application of Murphy's Law. I think that most of us will have been down that road at some time. I have never heard of oxy torch cleaners ......could you find time to tell me a bit more vis a vis the the reference to mini drills?

Hi Des,
I have always had great admiration for the Ships in Bottles skills. One of my cabin mates spent a great deal of his time doing this with great results. I did give it a try but didnt get on very well so stuck to my original fad of making small models of MTBs and the like using the very thin wood which was used by Bryant and May to make their boxes of safety matches. I think we were given one box per week from ships' stores. Great times those.

This is a aussie site but if you search oxy tip cleaners I am sure you will get the drift mate. Yes they are like mini drills. I checked out that site and it loaded okay for me so you should not have any problems. Famous last words hey.

Tried to follow your instruction post Doc, after a few fails, reduced the pic size to small and it seemed to work, the above was the result, so not being a tech boffin, don’t know if it worked.
Pete, the bandsaw is just a small affair (from Lidl) not expensive, but does the job for small light model sized work, I also bought a “Billings” boat kit from a charity shop, which I haven’t started yet, anyone had any experience with them ??
