Re: What is a third officer?
Happy Birthday Des. By the sounds of it you have had a great time.

A wee something to finish off your celebrations, depending on the hangover you may want to turn the volume down a tad

Re: What is a third officer?
Thanks everyone, my birthday went off with a bang but come down to earth on one of Marion's crackers , Thanks Marion I really enjoyed that. Had to get a medical for my license a week after my birthday Dr passed me with flying colours, but said I failed my eye test, so have to go on Tue to try and con the Optometrist, don't know if it is the same one I had a run in with three years ago, if so will have to grovel, I have Macular degeneration in my right eye, l know I should have stood on the left side of the Forecastle when on lookout.
Cheers DEs

Must have been when that Albatross dropped its lot on your head Des . Should have done what everyone else did stretch out with your feet out , the bells would wake you up if worried about being caught asleep on the job. Cheers JS

John.
Eyes are peculiar things I can read better with the one with Macular that the left one where I had the new lens put in. I can hear the Third Mate saying Jenkins go on the starboard wing you can see better there.

Re: What is a third officer?
Des I sailed with a mate called Jenkins in Runcimans as an apprentice also as 3 and 2 mate on other ships .He finished up as a Barrier Reef Pilot , he must be a long time gone by now. No relation to you was he ? You’ ll never guess what they called him , was Dai or maybe you would as all Welshman seemed to be called that , similar to all McClouds or McCleods from Stornaway being called Murdo. Knew at least 5 of them . Cheers JS
