London Cenotaph 2023 onwards
I did mention in another post but cannot remember which one, hence this one, about the dwindling numbers of MN personnel marching on Remembrance Sunday in London, the main event. There must be many of you out there would like to attend but do not know how to apply.(The RFA have their own Association and keep their members advised, and have a large contingent).
This year we are down to a maximum of 40 attendees, because there are not many of us left from WWII and Suez '56, but there must be some out there from The Falklands and other operations who could help keep our Red Duster flying.
If you are considering joining the ranks then the people to contact are :-
The Merchant Navy Association, Tim Brant - email t.brant@talktalk.net
or
Royal British Legion - email cenotaph@britishlegion.org.uk attention 'The Remembrance Events Team'
although I would contact Tim first as it helps in organising the event
There is, as far as I am aware no financial help for attending, although the Rail Networks provided free travel on the Saturday preceding and the Sunday to and from London last year for those holding a Veterans Rail Card, as an MN or ex MN you can apply for one, same cost as a Seniors Travel Card. Whether they will offer the same facility this year I have not heard
Just posted this in an effort to keep our Service to the forefront, as we are easily forgotten

I did Horse Guards parade in 2015 and you did not have to have served in any theatres of operations to attend. You just had to make an application.

Re: London Cenotaph 2023 onwards
Well I certainly hope you're right Billy, (as I was initially told that I could not march and attend unless I'd served in a war zone, have marched a few times now), so that opens the door to all, I hope some will take up the advantage and apply, as those in our 80's may not be able to do it for much longer, my name is already down for this year, let's hope I'm still here!

You don't have to join either, just put your name forward to the RBL, The MNA is only £12 per annum and if that gets you to the march to represent your service, it's money well spent, its not a question of personal pride, likes or dislikes, its about representing those who through no fault of their own, did not return, we owe them a representation.
