That's a great reminder. When I was a lad in the sea cadets, I spent a week or two on Arethusa. Must have been about 1958. I went on quite a few courses like that on different navy ships. If I remember rightly, we had to go barefoot all, or most of the time, or was that another boat?

Yes you are correct on the subject of bare feet.We never wore anything on our feet whilst on board accept on divisional dress occasions.Every morning we had divisions and prayers before going off to school.In the winter months when the main deck was covered in deep frost.Once we were dismissed the whole deck was covered with footprints where the frost had melted from where we all had been standing.Don’t think you would be able to do that these days.Probably would affect your mental health.
