I’m 71
In 2016 I started looking at Dad’s life
Mum threw him out in 1960
Mainly drink

We had a bit of a relationship but not much
I liked him but I started living away in 1971
Cornwall then
Jersey since 1979
We last met up in 1984

Since 2016 I’ve just not been able to stop myself
Looking at my dad’s life
War record then 27 years in the merchant navy

Because of the internet and wonderful websites like this
There is no end to what is possible to find out about dad’s life, ships etc

I’d like to thank everybody that has helped me these last 6 years.

I just wished when I last had a few beers with him
I had spoken about his life and not Bob Dylan, Manchester City and my marathon running!

Never entered my mind to talk about the war or the MN

I did another when I realised he had done 60 days in detention.

Dad was a bugger
But he had a life for sure!

In the mid 70’s he would be in the Slow n Easy pub in Lostock Gralam
Telling his stories. The drinkers loved them.
Wish I had been there.

Well i must say that you sure have gone into yor Dad's Life and managed to obtain all the information shown, this is fantastic and must have taken some time and research. A very good tribute to you Father i must say!
He went through much it seems during his life, and as you have said done many things. You can no doubt be very proud of him, no matter whatever>

The post you put up however Robert where you put only the leaving date on ships, if you also have the joining date that should also be given , and if possible where. It would be much easier to identify if paths have crossed. My possibilty of this happening could of been in Rotterdam and the crew sent from Dock Street , The possibilty would have been one man whose name I cant remember, however in not known such if you will excuse the question did he suffer from epilepsy, and had he ever attempted to cut his wrists. I to left the ship I believe in the port you mention in Wales but at a different date. Also was the masters name Jacotine if you are in possession of his discharge book. ??? JS

PS As an aside to this post and to the picture of Roberts dads service ribbons , and going back to another post re the Queens Jubilee, What Would the doubters of having a Monarch as Head of State have on the medals to replace the Crown ? Unless of course they got permission off Crown Lager to show. JS
