sailed on this type of vessel in those wonderful years we had at sea. ORARI was the only pre war built ship I sailed on, the rest were post war,
to my mind she was by far the best, she was a happy ship, she also had an eventful war service, she was the only surviver of three sisisters ,
OPAWA, OTAIO and ORARI, she was torpedod, hit by a mine and had near misses from bombs, I will write a thread, later {eyes permitting}.
I downsized from my house to the Bungalow two years ago, so I don't have the same space as befor, to take the pictures, I bought the model
into the dining room,it's now back in its case in my den, hope you like it
, cheers.

Thanks Vick, the model is 153cm / 5ft in length, made by a proffesional model maker to museum quality, when the time is right, it will be
donated to a museum, these ships and the men who sailed them are a part of our history and should never be forgotten. I have great
memories of that ship and the lads I sailed with aboard her, as a first tripper, being the only one for the crossing the line ceromony, they
gave me the works
, same trip, the lamptrimmer being the eldest aboard, rang out the old year on the ships Bell, me being the youngest
rang in the New Year, I had four trips with ORARI, all with great memories that stay forever, cheers
PS the model is 1:96 scale.

Re: MV ORARI model
The ORARI model is very detailed, you may wonder how this was acheived, it ook me a few years to collect the ships details that enabled
the model maker to build the model grade. I was able to supply onboard photos taken by me that showed the welldecks and winchhouses,
and otther small details, I know I've said before, in the 90s I I went to an annual event at Westminster, it was called the "Ship Show" it was
a proper aladins cave full of all things Maritime, you name it was there, I met Des Cox and his wife there when they were starting their new
bussiniess "SnowBow", it was there that I bought a NZSCo deck officers book, the book apart from many other things ,the book contained foldout
plans of the company's ships which included ORARI, I photocopied the plan and had it enlarged, the icing on the cake was when I found the
huge model of ORARI's sisteship OPAWA housed in Auklands Maritime Museum, I contacted the museum and explained what I was hoping to do,
I asked if the could supply me with photos of their model taken to show as much detail as possible, they agreed and gave me a price, a coulple
of weeks later I received a DVD dsc with 36 pictures of OPAWA, they did a brilliant job for me, and that is why the model turned out so well,
it took 14 months to build, I am very proud of it and still get so much joy just looking at it and remembering my time on the ship
, cheers.

Re: MV ORARI model
Hi John.
Beautiful model, I have down loaded it to show my son, he loves making models made one of the Cutty Sark for my birthday a few years ago.
Your model took me back to the NZ coast and all those lovely UK ships running the coast.
