This happened while I was still working in the police force around 1992-3, We were a small Town detachment of five officers working a town of about 5000 people and most times working alone. One Sunday, I had finished the day shift and was settling down after supper when I got a phone call from the night shift officer requesting back up right away because of a serious domestic, he was on his way to pick me up. Didn't have time to change into my uniform as he was in the driveway...On the way there, he told me it was a guy all pi..ed up assaulting the wife/ girlfriend . Worse part was I knew this guy really well. On arrival we walked to the door and were invited in, I walked in first to be greeted by him with a shot gun pointing our way. My partner moved quickly to the left to get cover from the fridge and had his gun out and ready. All I could do was start talking, We, to this day, believe it was because he Knew me and I was not in uniform, that he did not pull the trigger. After awhile he put down the gun on the table alongside another rifle. We managed to get her out of the house and while we were going to arrest him, he made a grab for the guns and the fight was on..In the meantime more help was starting to arrive.....He had a loaded semi auto 12 gauge, a fully loaded semi auto rifle and a loaded cross bow....It's surprising how big a barrel of a gun gets, when you are looking down the wrong end of it.... Regards, stan.
