Could well have done with one of those machines on the Pretoria.
Four assistant pantry men in one cabin, but one had a severe gas problem.
You could smell it half way down the working alleyway.
When I went to light a smoke I made sure he was not around, bloody disaster it would have been.
Never knew what he ate but it sure did something to his guts.

Had the degassing gear and Paravanes on the Wave Baron in 54, had the Paravanes out on the way to Aruba for a few days, can't remember why.

Des, at that time the Capt would have served during WWII and had unpleasant memories no doubt, 1954 apart from Cuba crisis was when the Cold War was well below zero and the world was on tenterhooks. I know in the 50's we were constantly having ABC warfare drills/musters and the spray nozzle pointed skywards was our sole salvation, we knew it was a crap solution, but we did it anyway
