Re: Help wanted in research of a WWII casualty
This must be one of my favorite threads, so glad I noticed it and thanks to all who contributed to it.
As I love anything related to this topic, I just wanted to share below, what I found while online searching the SS Bateau.
Cheers

Re: Help wanted in research of a WWII casualty
The Russian convoys must have been the worse passage during the war Dennis as can be imagined. Today we see turmoil between two nations which should never have occurred. That is Russia/ Ukraine. We only have the say so of politicians of how this was allowed to occur. The history of WW 11 is compiled from the pens of the victors , but from my rememberance of school boy history during and after the war Russia was in collusion with Hitler when invaded Poland and the aim of Russia was to draw such under their umbrella so to speak. Hitler like the history books say had no love for the Slavic countries, broke his commitment and invaded the Ukraine before Russia itself. What should be clarified to the likes of myself and the general public who are not aware is what Nationalty was the Ukraine at that moment in time , and under what language did she carry on its affairs. To me there is a misty reason why Russia is so upset and has taken such action to subdue the Ukraine. Russia changed sides during the last war to all intents and purposes as had no choice, but beng then a member of the allied forces should have been entitled to have the borders of countries re-established to what they had once been , was this done ? There must be historians on this site who paint a much clearer picture as to where it went wrong. Cheers JS
