Louis dont take things too seriously. One will always get difference of opinions, it doesnt have to be in shipping either. Every walk in life has its downside, when people talk about communism this used to be a perfectly legitimate party, today it is a dirty word despite countless millions believing in it although myself I dont. I have no particular issues with any party , which I am freely able to have . Any politician is not worth losing any sleep over. Just think as I do vote for the person you think best able to do the job. Unfortuanetly they are few and far between. I voted 3 times for Thatcher not because I agreed on her policys which in some cases was abnominal , but just because there was no one better. In the very end it is the majority who make the decision. We live by that rule , unless you want a despot to be the leader . The voting box is the place for politics job and finish, its a pity that the media could not also not be elected and licensed the same way. Cheers JS

Tell us the story again of how you bribed Slater in the pool to obtain a discharge book. Every seaman knows the pool was there to man the ships. Discharge books were not kept there or issued from there. Every Liverpool seaman knows discharge books were issued in Cornhill. On the photograph of the holder there is a circular embossed stamp with the words Mercantile Marine Office, plus another stamp with the date of issue. Even if you somehow managed to get a bent book it could not be used in the pool because you are not a registered seaman.

i presume you are alluding to me, where do you think i got my sea book and identity book if not cornhill exchange
as i needed both as my first trip was to( photi spelling im not sure of).in russia, but as my identity book was not yet ready i only had my discharge book, therefore i was not allowed to go ashore in russia, and i recieved my identity book when i came back to the uk.and personally if i thought that you upset me one iota i would produce it to make you look the fool you are trying to be.
as for slater in my memory he was a c**t and after the 1966 strike i got thrown out of the pool ( phyisically ) for jumping over the counter to give it to him.
also it is not a essential or necessary for members to be in the merchant navy or ex merchant navy seamen.
i joined this site for my own personal reasons, which is non of your business.and nor is it the business of anybody else.
your problem is is that you and your ideology does not like anybody elses opinion.

not only was mine issued in cornhill exchange, but i had a replacement from cardiff, also the last one was from the department of transport or the MCA ( maritime and coast guard agency ) which i still have.

Ivan the documents are issued in your nearest port. My original book etc. was issued in Tilbury which is the nearest port to Gravesend sea school.
