    Default Nuclear battery powered ships

Cannot really understood the technology behind this but it does seem to be a promising step towards reducing or eliminating carbon emissions from ships. I guess cost and the anti nuclear lobby will have a lot to say though.

The death knell of the previous nuclear powered merchant ships was world Govts and world port authorities, so they will have to be brought on board first to accept the modern technology, as previously most would not let Nuclear ships dock in their ports and we know how slow Govts and Port Authorities can move. Lets wish them well, but alas they will all probably be unmanned, but alas we cannot stop progress in that direction.

They may have been far sighted, I think it would be a major hazard if unmanned or run by incompetents.

I agree Tony, but it will surely happen and no doubt we will hear those immortal words after any major incident ...'Lessons must be learnt from this'

Apparently it is nuclear fission power, which is safer than fusion.

Out of curiosity I looked it up on the internet. Looks promising as it does not require huge containment vessels as it operates at much lower pressure.

It seems strange that they can use fission power to devlope a propulsion system for ships, yet that upscale it for general power for industry, homes etc.
Fission is the reportedly the holly grail of the power industry, clean no polution.

No good one of them coming to Oz, we do not allow any form of Nuclear.
We do sell uranium of course and also allow spent nuclear material to be burried in the out back.

But to show how mad we are down here in Oz, must be the sun, sand and grog, we have ordered new Submarines from France, pure madness.
But all the ones they make are Nuclear powered, but not for us, oh no.
We are going to have some converted to use Diesel, they will be ready for delivery by 2050 I kid you not.

There is talk with the current gov, bit more with it, that at some point Nuclear must be considered.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Life is too short to blend in.
