It was announced yesterday that her forthcoming sailings for May, June and July had been cancelled as she is undergoing boiler repairs.
Today it has been announced that this season sailings have been cancelled as she requires new boilers.
The charity are requesting donations to fund the replacement.

Apparently the charity needs to raise 2m pounds in order to replace the boilers.

I get the WAVERLY news letter by email but so far nothing about the coming season or boiler replacements,
when they come through I will happily donate to the charity. If the sun is shining, to be out on WAVERLY'S
deck going down the Thames with a pint in your hand, makes for a lovely day, down below you can stand
and view the engines at work and see the paddles turning up close through the special viewing window,
and when the Tower Bridge opens for you to sail under, that is the icing on the cake. Hopefully WAVERLY
and BALM ORAL will keep sailing for many years to come, cheers.

Waverley Excursions

***WAVERLEY WITHDRAWN FROM SERVICE***
It is with deep regret we must inform our loyal customers and supporters that Waverley has been withdrawn from service.
Waverley Excursions Ltd General Manager, Paul Semple has made the following statement.
“Today I have to announce that following extensive efforts to repair Waverley’s boilers we have reached the conclusion that we must stop repairs. We now know that to give Waverley a future she will need new boilers.
The challenge ahead is significant and unlike previous challenges the ship has faced in the last 45 years through her preservation. I am personally appealing to anyone that wants to see this historic ship sail again. I know first-hand the fondness that the general public have for Waverley and I know this news will be upsetting. However, Waverley can sail again if we can raise the funds required to purchase and install new boilers.
The Registered Charity which owns Waverley will shortly launch an appeal to save the ship and ensure she sails again. The cost of the required works is significant but if every passenger who would have sailed this year donated the cost of their ticket towards our appeal we will return Waverley to steam. More than ever we need support to preserve this iconic vessel as the last sea-going paddle steamer in the world.”

We sail on the Waverley every summer and have spent many happy days cruising on the Clyde or on one of the Lochs with, as you say John, a pint in your hand. Will be sadly missed this year if the information is as serious as it sounds.

Thanks for that John, I've often thought I'd like to join WAVERLY on the open waters of the Lochs
beautiful scenery but too far to go knowing how the weather can change. I saw a photo of the
WAVERLY passing under the stern of a Cunard Queen she looked like a Dinky toy, a lovely picture, cheers.

"It is just structural with the boilers, there were certain sections we’d have to start taking out but you get to the point where in order to do that you have to almost rip the ship in parts to take them out. You’d have to take her funnels off in order to access the boilers totally, so it is major work but as a charity we don’t have the reserves for that sort of work".
