Re: Shore supply electrics
Be arguing that for years Lewis.
I believe Reading town centre is powered by a fuel cell. Cell produces electricity and hot water. Hot water heater an hotel and the local swimming baths.
When I worked the courts I put forward a system, use agasengineto provide power, heat from the engine would heat building in winter.
In summer waste went to an absorption chilled, which cooled the buildings, court Service would not invest.

Re: Shore supply electrics
I looked seriously at Combined Heat and Power systems , CHP, used a lot in Scandinavia , but using a Wartsilla on gas but could never get a heat / power balance to work , we needed heat at over 100 C for pasteurisation and needed 2 MW of power at 11kV , there were substantial subsidies available at the time , also we could only get an interrupt gas supplies

Some years ago I read a scientific article where Cambridge scientists claimed to have solved the hydrogen fuel cell problem by designing an inert material that contained mathematically more hydrogen atoms than its physical form could hold. They claimed that this material could be sold in supermarkets in packages similar to washing powder. You would buy a package, slot it into a specially designed unit in your hydrogen powered car and off you would go. This would eliminate the need for heavy duty hydrogen fuel tanks to be fitted to cars etc. and also remove the need for special fuel stations. I don't have the faintest idea of the science behind the claim but it was reported in a well respected scientific journal. Never heard anything since regarding this since that initial report.

Read this article on hydrogen fuelled cars a couple of days ago, kt

Re: Shore supply electrics
I recall reading an article some time back where in California they were experimenting with cars on Hydrogen.
Not sure how it ended up.
But one problem with all electric cars will be the battery life, they will not last forever.
The other problem with the current type is that they just stop dead, no warning.
Tesla the electric car manufacturer is in trouble as they have not met deadlines with demand and sales are, according to reliable sources, dropping.
But a couple of years ago a mate of mine looked into the electric car concept.
Was told by the salesman that not only did the battery have a limited life, but when a new one is fitted some of the connecting cables must also be changed.
Could be a costly exercise.
Re: Shore supply electrics
Could be a problem in Oz as we have blackouts in South Australia and Victoria where they dont have enough power for there own use let alone visiting silver tails. Obviosully Trump has not let the greenies take over like here in Aus.
Re: Shore supply electrics
I presume that the green lobby would answer the you should have solar panels and go to bed early but without her knowing for how much carbon dioxide is produced when you're making the solar panels in the first place
Re: Shore supply electrics
My solar panels are not working correctly at the moment. And trying to get the installer of the last lot back is proving difficult. All I am getting is promises to return and look at. Will await developments as they arise . But expect better results. JWS
Re: Shore supply electrics
made in China if you buy them in the UK
Re: Shore supply electrics
Supposed to be made in Germany if you buy here. JS
