Re: Iberia 1956
Thanks Vernon.
I was unable to post all three pictures.
Iberia had to go into Ceylon for repairs.
Can't recall for how long.

Hi Lewis, If the old memory serves,it was a clear night. We were lit up like a Christmas tree.
Didn't ever hear who was at fault.

Re: Iberia 1956
The ship was hit on the Port side which shows that she was the stand on vessel. and the Tanker would be the vessel that should alter course to avoid a collision.
BUT. As I always instructed my Cadets, "NEVER EVER TRUST anyone outside the wheel house windows.
If you see a Give Way Vessel, monitor it and if no signs of an alteration get out of the way yourself. Never wait until; it is Too late.
I have seen in many close quarters situations when I was the Stand on vessel, Calls on the VHF unanswered, then a search light on their wheel house and that is empty, No signs of life anywhere, Then get out of the way FAST.
Many of the foreign ships , put it on the Iron Mike and all hands turn in.
Never Trust Anyone outside your wheel house window.
Brian

Re: Iberia 1956
I have a large watercolor painting of the Iberia given to me by one of my pub customers in 1975.
She was in perfect condition then, so what happened?

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Iberia 1956
I was on the Iberia 1964/65 and she was fine then. In fact I don't remember anybody even mentioning he collision. At that we were a floating hotel for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.
