Cappys lost relative

###i would just like to pay compliment to you all who helped in the search for my shetland family of seafarers...your help was more than i could have expected ....it was done in a seafaring way of help without the seeking of reward ...that is very different to most of todays inputs from folk in general.....this site is indeed a band of brothers and sisters.....it is reminiscent of seafaring time of the 50s and sixties to me ...one most poignient point the loss of two drowned in dunston on tyne 12 years apart....brought back my dear grandmas warning and telling me dont go to dunston ......which i only did once paying off.....and managed not to fall and drown ..but shall surely keep away from it now...once again thanks to you all from a very gratefull cappy .from shields

Dunston Stitches are now a tourist attraction and there are loads of new housing built around the area. A cracking café and pub have been built to serve all the new residents, a lot of whom are students at the two Newcastle Uni's.
I too have Shetland family in my tree. They are from Nestig and recently a relative sent me a photo of the croft house they lived in. One of my ancestors was a captain who ended up marrying a ship owners daughter in Maryport.

Ian, it appears as though my family immigrated from England with John Cram, ch. 29 February 1595/96, Bilsby, Lincolnshire, England - d. 5 March 1681/82, Hampton Falls, Rockingham, N.H., USA, m. Hester White, 8 June 1624, Bilsby, Lincolnshire, England.

The Springvale, Maine genealogy library was able to provide me with details about Captain John Stanyan Cram, who served as a drummer in the Revolutionary War and participated in the Lexington Alarm, April 1775.This information came from a book, titled "Early Families of Sanford-Springvale, Maine.I was also able to locate the Captain's resting place and photographed his marker.The book lists Captain John Stanyan Cram as the 5th generation.It notes the following in parenthesis beside his name (Peter4, Thomas3, Thomas2, John1.)
Am I correct in my documentation that John1 must be the John Cram who married Esther White?

If so, then my documentation is as follows:

Thomas Cram b. 1696(son of Thomas & Elizabeth) m. Mary Coleman Brown. (Did you have Thomas as one of the 4 children? I don't have any siblings names in generations previous to John Stanyon Cram b. 1755.)

Peter Cram b. 1728 (son of Thomas & Mary) m. Sarah Stanyan.

John Stanyan Cram b. 1755(son of Peter & Sarah) m. Peace Nason. He was in Sanford, Maine as early as 1777, when he purchased land from John Stanyan.

John Cram, Jr. b. 1778(son of John & Peace) m. Mary Whidden.

David Cram b. 1815(son of John Jr. & Mary) m. Laura Bennett.

Christoper Hammond Cram b. 1838(son of David & Laura) m. Sally Young.

Dana Christopher Cram b. 1878 (son of Christoper & Sally) m. Minnie Whitten.

Reginald Young Cram b. 1912(son of Dana Christopher & Minnie) m. Edith Allen (my grandparents).

From Captain John Stanyon Cram to my grandfather Reginald Young Cram, the line stayed in Sanford. My father & three brothers, as well as my sister and I with our families still live in Southern Maine.

So, bear with me here...is the issue that some of the Scottish postings I have read believe that ALL Crams originally came from Scotland, then to England or Canada or wherever...And some people believe that at least SOME of the Crams decend from the German Von Kramm?

thanks kieth...the info you have is similar to what i have ...but the german line of hans von cram and his men at arms arriving in tyneside as mercenaries is the strongest link we have before they leave for the americas......i have lettters from the american side ...and we had a photo of saw mills and properties from 1920s in sanford maine.......thanks for your attentions ...looking forward to the six nations .......cappy

Cappy if its any consolation to you, whenever my old lady and old man were having a tiff, she always referred to his teutonic head, later in life she would say to me your just like your father.
