Re: Pensions
Having glanced at the info regarding claiming historical benefits from rmt it seems that the date for notification was 2014. If a member hadn't been informed by then there would not have been a claim considered. Also, the author of this information was Bob Crow, the rmt leader who died early in 2014. Gilly

Re: Pensions
The Merchant Navy Ratings Pension Fund (MNRPF) started in 1978 and has nothing to do with the Union. I started in 1952 and finished in 1988 so I had 10 years in it. I got out medically in 1989 with a lump sum and monthly pension of £280 (which is not indexed linked, it stays the same). I applied for this back dating but was told that I already had had it. I don't know how, so I am looking further into it. I know a couple of old shipmates who got quite a good settlement out of it. I'll let you know how I get on.
Alec.

Re: Pensions
Hi Trader.
I have my National Union of Seamen's book from 26/5/49 in fact it looks brand new, I started paying the day I left the Vindi. Old age contribution was 2s per quarter, and as I said before Old age and convalescent benefits as provided in rule 15. Don't know where rule 15 has gone but it's not in the book. Then again there is some confusion as to whether this latest claim is for a pension fund run by the pool, maybe to do with the pension fund going missing during the strike. I will await details with a cynical air.
Cheers Des
