John. On my first trip to New York, an old hand told me.
If you want cheap gear,go down to the Sally Ann.
The jackets may have the odd bullet hole or tire mark, but other than that good for the price.
Was never sure if he was having me on! Den.

Hi Den
I used to use the Salvation Army in New York, 8th Ave I think.
I got a beautiful drape, pure silk, midnight blue suit , $10 Three bullet holes in the back, It had been dry cleaned but the lining still carried a big stain. Mother darned the holes, they get them from the Morgue. also white silk shirts one dollar that was in 1956.
I looked a million dollars in that when I went to the Locarno, a pack of Luckies in the top pocket, a mid Atlantic accent, a western ocean roll and a genuine fake Rolex on the wrist.
Must have looked a right twallop.
Cheers
Brian.
Dennis, we are going all inclusive, meeting up with another four people there

#43, Hey cheeky chops I am being serious, anyway I like Americans, my Irish stock is over there! :D Will send pm
#47, Sure Den you get fruitcakes, loudmouths and eejits, but you get them in any country! I
avoid wherever I am:)
#47- Agree Dennis. Two years ago we drove the Route 66( Chicago to LA) and met a lot of pleasant and welcoming Americans. All of them were proud of their particular State and the US as a whole. The Stars and Stripes were flown from almost every homestead, with no fear of offending any other 'minority group'. I must say it was a bit unerving to see, in some states, sidearms being worn openly in public. We found most Americans were curious about different cultures etc as a great majority of them had never ventured beyond their own country. Conversely, during my time as a Cunard Yank I encountered many Americans whilst employed as a tourist waiter, who really should never have been issued with a passport. I've never understood why some of them behave in such an obnoxious manner while abroad, with little respect for the country they may visit or the people they might encounter.

Enjoying the sun and sand at Port Melbourne beach Sunday when this guy arrives in what looked like an old fashioned night shirt. He got talking in quite good broken english. Said he was a Lesbian from Beriut arrived in 1974. He is 64, his wife 37. They have 9 kids and she is again slightly pregnant as he has potted her for the 10th time. Must be the night shirt that does it.
