Re: Scotland's Navy
The thing is Cappy the rest of the world knows this and is why every layabout makes for the UK. With out trying to appear pedantic we worked mostly at a very early age as in most working class families, be it messenger boy, newspapers etc etc and was to supplement the household expenses. nowadays you get people screaming children being abused and made to work, it was very nearly a pleasure to know you were assisting your family. Nowadays kids are getting groomed to go to University from a very early age, why? Half the time it is to appease snobby parents who think their offspring are better than anyone elses. The degrees they get are useless half the time but are acceptable to some employers purely for their status value. As you said we are breeding a bunch of malcontents who are finally not going to fit into any society. They are non producing and expect the state to keep them, this is even worse when you get the thousands pouring in wanting the same deal. Going back if it were ever possible to rectify this would be ideal, but unless anyone invents a time machine is not going to happen. The only answer and is doubtful it would work, would be to tighten up the welfare system, unfortuanetly in this case it is usually the authentic cases that are caught up in the web and the layabouts find holes in the system.. However for starters no welfare should be paid to immigrants regardless of what mein fuhreress has to say, and the only way out is to come out of Europe. The longer they take the worse are going to be the consequences. JS

Re: Scotland's Navy
I see that the good Scots Nationalist politician, Mr. Salmond, has, after resigning as head of the SNP leader has suddenly woken up to the fact that the trough has been pulled out from beneath his feet and has now declared that he is going to fight for a seat in the Westminster parliament in order to ensure that the devolution of powers to Scotland promised in the referendum does actually take place.
Call me cynical but is there a hint of him realising that the trough is deeper in Westminster than Edinburgh thus enabling him to have a lifestyle more akin to a king of Scotland rather than a leader of a political party.

Re: Scotland's Navy
I see many of those in town, I always say "Join The Army, Lad, new boots, three meals a day and a big overcoat, " I always get " vick off"
If I was like that I would certainly join one of the Services, You can learn a trade in the Service, come out and get a good job.
But these bums make a lot of money begging. They nearly always have a small dog for the sympathy. what a load of crap.

Re No 45- moktay.
Enough said about Jap Whisky.
To add insult to injury, the English Whisky Co which is based in Norfolk has been named as best whisky maker in Europe. I wonder why?. Their whisky has hardly had time to mature in the casks, as the distillery has only been in operation for six years. During the period of maturation, Scotch Whisky is stored in oak caskets or barrels for a minimum of three years. It can't be sold as whisky at this young age, but can be used in Blended Whiskies. Scotch needs to have matured for a minimum of eight years before it can be marketed. As far as I'm concerned this English unmatured stuff at £45.00 a bottle is a very expensive way of lighting the fire. Remember a dram is only a real dram, when it's poured from a bottle of "Scotch Whisky". One good thing going for the English Whisky Co is, I notice that they have managed to spell their product without an "e".
FOURO.

Re: Scotland's Navy
Hi Des T.J........your #33 refers.
I too suffer with the disease of which you speak. In medical terminology it is known as
'DuyPuytren's Contracture' (or, as you say, in common parlance, 'Viking's Disease'). About two years ago, I had the operation to straighten out my left little finger. Although most common in little fingers it can occur in any finger or thumb. In fact, both my thumbs will require surgery at some time in the next year or two. If left unchecked the fingers will curl into the palms seriously impeding any use of the hand.
As your Doctor has told you, the disease is most common amongst Scandinavians or those of Scandinavian descent, however I'm not certain that it is totally exclusive to people of Nordic races. Since having been diagnosed with this condition I've become quite enamoured with the idea that, like you and Kong, I may well be the descendant of Vikings. What makes me feel even more positive is the prospect of running around waving a broad-bladed sword, raping and pillaging to my hearts content. It does have a certain appeal;) Furthermore, having seen the film ' The Vikings' many years ago, I now rather fancy myself as a poor man's Kirk Douglas or Tony Curtis.
As a final token of loyalty to my new-found heritage, I have left instructions that when I die I'm to be placed in my small cabin-cruiser, which is then to be set alight and pushed out into Sydney Harbour from the Opera House steps, whereat Brunhilda (she of ample proportion, wearing a billowing daiphanous gown with two dustbin lids to shield her gargantuan bosom and a helmet with protruding horns) will, in voice falsetto, sing a selection of Viking lullabies....... I see it all so clearly :)
.......Roger
p.s. With apologies for this divergence from the thread subject.

Re: Scotland's Navy
Des & Taff #33, #45 . I also suffer from Duputrens Contracture. I had an operation on my left hand which was often contracting into a fist, they removed the infected tissue from tendons connecting my little finger and two index fingers. I am waiting now to see if my right hand gets any worse as all four fingers are affected. The consultant told me that the operation can only be performed once as the scar tissue can do more damage to the use of your hands than the operation so never rush to have the operation done. Like you guys I was quite pleased to learn that I must have Nordic ancestry in my past. As on my mothers side my great grand parents are Welsh. My father was Irish but as he was born out of wedlock I have no idea who his father was. His mother was also Irish as far as I am aware He never knew who his father was. He lived around the docks in Dublin as a young lad, So I like to think that my Paternal Grandfather was a young Nordic seaman doing what we all did in our youth at sea which was a few drinks ashore with some female company and not worry about the future.
